Well I gave in and gave it a bit of a stir. Ever so gently, with a knife. It seems... Puffy? I think this is good, right? And since I did that, I notice bubbles, and can't remember if they were there before I stirred or not. Anyway, thanks for the tip BBH, I think the oven light will be a good...
So I've been watching LOST lately, as it's available on Netflix, and I was thinking, hey... I wonder if anyone there knows how to make soap? (Yes I understand this is a completely fake show, I'm just being silly. And I've only seen season one, so no spoilers!) And not only making lye, and...
In my extremely limited experience of choosing this house (which we are trying to sell!) my advice is, go look at the property at all times of the day. And during the week, and weekend. If I had known about the back-door neighbor's habits and dogs, I would have though twice. But we only looked...
It seems to have a layer of water on the top now... I think it didn't work? It hasn't been quite 24 hours yet. But it did get a little cool in here last night, maybe 65. :(
Personally, I'd go with Freddy's. But I'm biased because there is one located less than five minutes from my house. I also like Costco, and you can't beat some of their bulk prices. For example, yeast. $5.99 for two POUNDS. I like Trader Joe's, but I have yet to see why so many people are so...
So I want to loosely cover it right from the beginning? And I hadn't heard the about the fruit baggy idea... What if I have no cheesecloth? Can I add it later, like tomorrow?
And if this works, I would love recipes so that I can use the extra starter! Waste not, and all that.
:welcome
I know how you feel about the city trimming the trees. My parents had that happen randomly a couple times. What's weird is that they live in a dead end street with power lines underground. What reason would they have to sheer off the sides of our trees? We now park our cars...
Dace- It's icky since at home, where I grew up, I'd go and sit on the porch on the swing, with the dog... Probably listen to the frogs for a while. After shutting in the chickens, of course. Now... Well if I went out back the neighbor's tiny rat-dogs would bark incessantly until the owner comes...
You know how states have lists of "You know you live in *insert state here* when?" I've been reading different state's, and it's a kick! For example EVERY state lists "when you list distance in minutes." Many states list the same things. An example of a persistent saying:
You design your kid's...
Phooey, I don't have any empty glass jars right now. So I'll have to wait, or grab one from Goodwill.
I notice certain smells (like a litterbox anywhere in a house) but not others. For example, my mom makes me clean out the hen house. Even though I live 2 1/2 hours away...
Okay, since it's been so darn hot here, I thought this would be a good time to try to make a sourdough starter.
First off, generally, I see that you should not let it get below 70 degrees. Now, what happens if it gets to say, 65? Is this an exact science?
And second, did I read the recipe...
FarmerDenise- It's a horrible problem, isn't it? I wish the general public would be more understanding. Then all us sufferers would be able to go around in sandals and flip-flops. We would be able to cure ourselves easier that way! My infection is so bad that I'm sure small children would run...
Okay, so the neighbors two houses down, have chickens. Hens. Actually, the little boy said that they thought "one might be a rooster." Well guess what I heard this morning?? An adorable young rooster crowing! A lot! In a really funny awkward way. So the hens might be laying by now, right? I need...
That's wonderful news! Although I must admit to being a little jealous. Someday I hope to have news like yours. You can post pictures once you're moved, so we can see this 3 acre blessing!
I'm storing mine in a huge Costco sized kitty litter bucket. Haven't bought litter in over a year, since he uses the people toilet. But next time I'll look for a better alternative. I do go through a bunch of vinegar jugs. Do you wait until it gels, or after to pour it in? The top half of mine...
I made the liquid laundry soap! Not for any particular reason, since the dry worked just fine. I just wanted to try it, since it's a bit cheaper. And fun to make! Made my own soap instead of Fels Naptha. Again, not because I didn't like the Fels. I just wanted to! And so I used 3 ounces grated...
I WISH they still made true oil-cloth. Since I work at JoAnn's, I get asked if we carry it every single day! I have to say no, the closest thing is the outdoor vinyl. Which is not the same, but it's mean to just say no and walk away.
Oh, but we do have cotton duck cloth!
