    Dish soap in the kitchen

I'm not beekissed, but http://nrc.uchsc.edu/CFOC/HTMLVersion/Appendix_I.htmlhere's a link for bleach solution. There are different opinions on how much is effective. When I do childcare classes for licensing they said a teaspoon and a half (or something real minute like that) per gallon. I...

    Milk Jug Weights

:yuckyuck exercise, yeah, ummm.. what's that? Something I have to start doing (which is why I checked this post) so I can look halfway acceptable in a bridesmaid dress next year. Oh how I despise the idea of exercise! Guess i'll be fillin' some milk jugs next week! That's a good idea...

    dog shampoo

To me, a wet dog smells like a wet dog! LOL! If they're stinky from being dirty (or rollig in something dead <gag>) then the shampoo will just wash out whatever dirt/smells... but then once rinsed they still smell like a wet dog.. w/ just a hint of the scent of the shampoo. Though all I...

    Dish soap in the kitchen

I've finally found some. I agree it is hard to find most places. Kmart has their brand "American Fare" of a milk and honey handsoap. It's a jug (not gallon size though) and it is not antibacterial. HTH! Miss The North... And yes, I'm thrilled that my kids do wash their hands... the 8yio is...

    The waste is astonishing!

A casino near us just built an entirely new casino, same property. I was hoping they'd make use of the old building (community center or something? rent it out for banquets or something?) But nope, they tore the entire thing down to make room for more parking. So disappointing...

    dog shampoo

I use baby shampoo! Mostly b/c I already have it on hand. It's gentle, and I rinse and rinse and rinse to make sure it's all out.

Frugal kitchen tips and hints. Share!!!

I cook my ground beef up in a big electric oven roaster, and add water like Miss The North. I guess I never thought of it as boiled. :) But I scoop it off and put it in a bowl in the fridge, like you mentioned. It works great. I then add onions and garlic, salt and pepper to the meat and...

    Dish soap in the kitchen

Cassandra, I think my mom has the same one you do! Sounds like it, and that's how much she paid too! Looks cool, works great too! I've used the foam ones for a few years (got one from tupperware awhile back) but they got lost in one of the moves. I bought some Dial brand foaming dispenser...

    Apples!

YummmmM! I can't wait for apple season... though the local farmers say it's a bad year, numbers are way down. I know the trees close to our house didn't blossom. I didn't check the ones out towards the edge of our property. I'll still get some from the local farmers. We eat just eat 'em...

    What can you live without?

If I had a dumpster, and a weekend w/out kids... I could toss probably 75%, well at least 50% of what's in this house! It would be so neat and tidy! :) We want to put in a woodburning stove also... would use for heat and cooking in the winter months.

How much $ do you save being self-sufficient?

For us, and where we live... it's a feast or famine thing... and if you don't prepare (while feasting) you WILL famine.. and most people do around here. The winters are a huge struggle, most people are seasonal workers. Our tourist season (which is where most of our money comes from around...

Good reference books and mags on the subject?

Yeah, well considering he was sleeping w/ my best friend (BFF since we were 3yo) and two "acquaintance" friends of ours.. and who knows who else... while I was on bedrest.... and a year after. He thought that was o.k. and that there's nothing wrong w/ it. I didn't want to catch any diseases...

Good reference books and mags on the subject?

My first turn on to living frugally was The Tightwad Gazette. There are 3 books to the series. I read them while I was on complete bedrest w/ my first pregnancy (13 yrs ago). I didn't need to live frugally. We were very well off. (ex-H is independantly wealthy) But it really interested me...

    cost of eating home-raised chicken

If you already have your coop/run built from having chicks for a hobby/pet/eggs whatever, it's really not that much more, esp. when you hatch your own. So I tend to agree w/ Pat that it's not really that high of a cost. Plus I'd trust my own chickens over grocery store chickens anyday. I KNOW...

    a rancher

This is cute, my DH emailed it to me today.. had to share! A Montana rancher got in his pickup and drove to a neighboring ranch and knocked at the door. A young boy, about 9, opened the door. 'Is yer Dad home?' the rancher asked. 'No sir, he ain't,' the boy replied. 'He went into town.'...
