I have pasta in gallon freezer bags that I store in a clear plastic tote with a tight fitting lid. I never thought about bugs though, it hasn't been a problem so far.
What about wheat? Can I use wheat instead of barley? I have a neighbor that grows wheat as a rotational crop for cotton that has told me I can have as much as I want for free.
I put it in the dehydrator raw, although I do have a recipe from our extension agency somewhere that says to boil it first for a couple minutes because the dehydrator doesn't get hot enough. DH did it that way once, but the meat all fell apart and it was a huge pain. This last time I made...
Last winter we keep our thermostat at 70* and our bill ran about $180 a month. Plus our heater is propane so we spend about $700 on propane between November and March.
This winter we are keeping the thermostat at 50* and using our fireplace. Our bill last month was $113 and we haven't used...
My 8yo son has made me think twice about how I talk about money. He wanted to go to the movies one day and I told him that I don't have any money right now. A couple hours later I ran to the grocery store and bought $30 worth of groceries and filled the car up with gas. The rest of the day he...
My son "helped" me out one day by gathering all the eggs and putting them in the cartons. My father-in-law asked me several days later if I was out to get him. Apparently my son had gave him one of my ceramic eggs that I had in our nest box. The thing is so realistic that even I...
We've found that a pecan glued to a mouse trap works like a charm. I've never had a mouse steal the bait and it says fresh. We've even used the same pecan for several mice. In our old house we caught 10 in 24 hours on 3 traps and the next day we got a cat
I read something in the Reader's Digest right before I was married about a woman whose mother told her to never tell her about the fights between her and her new husband because she might be able to forgive him but her mother might not. Or something along those lines. Because of that I have...

Raised 40 laying chickens
Raised and butchered 24 meat chickens
Increased the number of raised beds from 4 to 10
Started a compost bin
Went back to school
I'm copy and pasting this here from the other thread so that I can keep track of it better.
1. Declutter/simplify - sell what I can and either donate or trash the rest. If an item doesn't have a specific place it has got to go.
2. Build more raised beds - I think I'm going to use the tire...
1. Declutter/simplify - sell what I can and either donate or trash the rest. If an item doesn't have a specific place it has got to go.
2. Build more raised beds - I think I'm going to use the tire idea from another thread and put my tomatoes in them
3. Get some rabbits - the kids need...
Lol, me too. I got home from church today and ran out to the coop to get the last couple eggs and shut the door. DH laughed at me while I was scraping chicken poop off my high heels.
