What makes me a little crazy is when our eating habits are kind of made fun of. It is highly ironic to me to have overweight, unhealthy people laughing at my kids eating too well. One of DH's sisters really wants her kids to eat well--she's also trying harder to get her kids active--but she's...
My husband is medically obese but can do all those things just fine. Doesn't mean he is not having internal damage despite being in shape for his weight.
TOTALLY agree! It's absolutely insanely out of whack, so that anyone even approaching "normal" healthful eating looks like the crazy one.
We got invited to DH's parents for supper last night, which was really nice. The meal:
Chicken noodle soup, loaded with noodles
Juice
Potato chips
Tortilla...
No kidding on the schools!! I was appalled when DS entered kindergarten and parents sent in total crap for snacks, plus the kids got 2 chocolate (they could choose) milks per day. My son had never seen it before in his life. He started a steady weight gain from age 5 until now, when he is...
We had this in our family, and I hate to say it but it didn't end until somewhere between ages 10 and 11. I got a plastic bed pad and placed it on top of the bedspread, then covered the child with a heavy blanket above. That way I only had one pad and 1 blanket to wash on wet nights.
Good for you on all that weight loss!!
The problem with your criterion above is that plenty of damage can be done at lower weights, but it's internal and long-term, so people may not notice soon enough. (BP, blood sugars, cancer, heart disease, joint deterioration)
I saw that, too.
I used to be very thin and had comments on it all the time. Now daughter does. People think thin is unhealthy but are willing to accept a significant amount of fat as normal and healthy. Kids get stuffed with food and people find that fine, but then they start developing a...
I agree that is probably part of it--the poverty and food access issue. But there is also plain unwillingness to spend time to prepare good food. I see this in DH's family. They want the kids to eat good, but they don't cook. And if the kids won't eat their vegetables, they let them have junk...
Forever, truly. The only way honey goes bad is if the beekeeper pulled it from the hive when it was still too wet and not capped in wax by the bees. In that case, it would ferment. But assuming that is not the case, it will last forever.
I think there's a misunderstanding between obese and morbidly obese. Obese is significantly overweight. Morbidly obese is even heavier. My boss is medically morbidly obese but walks around just fine. Someone who is having a hard time getting around is dangerously overweight.
I think our...
I also bring all our own things for potlucks :) This weekend it was cornbread with our blue Hopi corn and our own wheat, plus applesauce from wild apples in the bluffs. Packed breakfast and lunch for work today.
