    selling chicken eggs

Agreeing with Rhoda Bruce. Just had friends tell me today that they bought store eggs to make cookies to gift their neighbors, as they didn't want to use up my "good eggs." I have far more comments on the taste of our eggs than our stunning organic vegetables! People e-mail from trips to tell me...

What did you do to MAKE money today?

That's sweet of you :) The only thing I sold out of was the deodorant, which I thought would be the worst seller. About $700 in sales, total, so I was happy.

    Grinding your own flour

The fresher the better. And refrigerate or freeze after grinding since there will be fat (germ) in your wheat which will go rancid.

    Garden planning this year

That's true, but it will take years longer to get a harvest... Maybe you could find someone to split an asparagus crown order with and then get a bulk discount?

What did you do to save $ today?

Thanks! Made a bunch of "worker share" gifts for my CSA helpers, saving a load of $ and hopefully making them happy.

    Deodorant

I use a recipe nearly identical to Laureli's, and love it!! I biked in my basement 1 hour this winter, didn't shower, put it on and went to church. Smelled great--no odor at all. I haven't had a summer yet to test it out, but nothing can stand up to summer work and sweat. Be sure to melt...

    Whats for dinner?

Leftovers, which would be tacos with brown rice/quinoa or shredded pork with taco seasoning. Cabbage salad and applesauce.

What did you do to MAKE money today?

Sold 11 dozen eggs. Heading to a huge Garden Expo tonight with several hundred soaps, several hundred lip balms, deodorant, body balm, and piles of canned jams, jellies and pickled veggies. This show is usually a significant money maker for me. Whoohoo!

What did you do to save $ today?

wannabefree--do you have a link to your dog food recipe? We have a 5-month-old pup and have been giving her low-quality cheap food :(

Anyone struggling to eat out or from grocery stores? any clean eaters?

I think I've been at it so long now that I forget how much time it takes. We were recently taken to Mexico by my parents, and house staff did the cooking all day. I was SHOCKED at how many hours there were in the day when no food prep/cleanup was involved! I think simplifying a menu can help...

Is there an easy way to clean wheat?

This past week, I just plugged in my house fan outside and did the same thing since there was no wind on the day I wanted to clean my blue Hopi corn.

Is there an easy way to clean wheat?

I guess it would depend on wind speed :) But you're right--wheat would need less of a wind than popcorn or flour corn. Good luck!

Anyone struggling to eat out or from grocery stores? any clean eaters?

It is a genuine possibility. I was talking with friends today who are heading into a 7-day juice fast.

Is there an easy way to clean wheat?

My husband takes ours to a family member's farm to use their cleaner, but this might work: I do this for popcorn and flour corn. Have 2 large containers--one with the wheat, the other empty. On a very windy day (or in front of a strong fan--outside), pour the wheat from one container to the...

What did you do to save $ today?

I traded a bag of carrots and beets from storage for a SCOBY from a friend. Ours went moldy when we were away for a week.

Anyone struggling to eat out or from grocery stores? any clean eaters?

Mickey--as a certified organic farmer myself, I can't help but address your comment. My guess is that IF e. coli is higher in organic produce, it's probably that organic uses manure at all. Conventional uses chemical fertilizers, which obviously have no e. coli. Someone properly composting would...

    What else should I get?

For herbs, parsley, basil, mint, dill, cilantro. How about potatoes? Carrots, sweet potatoes, onions, summer squash/zucchini, cabbage? Sounds good, though :)

    How many pounds of produce?

Menards sells windowsill mini-greenhouse kits. We use them for the kids and they work great. You could get 100s of plants started this way inside. Or get grow lights for a basement table. Good luck! I only have 4 people I need to store for yearround :)

    How many pounds of produce?

I think you should just start growing and learn by experience. We have a 1-acre vegetable field and we were getting up to 1/2 ton of produce per week from it when the tomatoes were going crazy and yielding 800 lb/week. My best guess estimate would be 2-3 TONS of produce from 1 acre. I grow...
