What are you planting this year?

Joel--that's actually the way they look when ripe. Kind of unusual but cool :)

Is organic wheat seed food safe?

It should be okay. Organic seed is not allowed to be treated. Most treatments are hot pink and show up clearly.

    home made butter...yum!

Seriously, pretty much everything. It makes me leery of trying the next homemade whatever, as I know I won't be able to go back and it will become just one more thing on my to-do list. :D

    Asparagus bed

Asparagus is the bomb! And fresh is not even in the same category whatsoever as canned :) Truly. Stir-fry fresh with olive oil, garlic, salt and fresh cracked pepper. To die for. Just be sure to follow planting instructions exactly. You could probably harvest a stem here and there the first...

MyKidLuvsGreenEgz .. .. COLORADO IS BURNING

Hi mykids :) First of all, huge support for you as a mom. My kids are "normal" and healthy, and I still cherish time away from them from time to time. A child with extra needs would seem to go with a mom with need for more alone time. I hope the new schooling situation goes better! As for...

trying to find cheap whole wheat flour

Google is great, so I'd Google "hard wheat MN" or something like that. It's usually the more western states that grow the hard wheat, but you're closer to them than I, so perhaps shipping wouldn't be outrageous. I add 1 T of vital wheat gluten to all my whole-wheat recipes to give it more...

Kalamata Olives (and a bit of a ramble...)

I just used them in a huge raw root veggie salad. I shredded red cabbage, green cabbage, radishes, turnips, carrots, beets and sweet potatoes, then drizzled with Italian dressing and chopped in kalamata olives. Yum!

Strong seedling starts... anybody else try volcanic rock powder?

Hi Joel-- You're right--the air circulation would prevent disease AND promote strength. I especially focus on my tall plants like tomatoes. Otherwise they grow rather weak stems that haven't been challenged. I transplant them into an area that gets very strong spring winds. With the fan, I...

Strong seedling starts... anybody else try volcanic rock powder?

I use Cowsmo compost and have been really happy with it. I used to make a mix with compost, green sand, bone meal and other goodies, but I actually like the Cowsmo even better. I make sure I have good planting practices, good light height, water amounts, etc. And I put fans on my plants when...
