The thing about thiomersal that bugs me:
Just because a compound contains an element that you typically think of as toxic does not automatically make that compound dangerous.
None of us would suggest Chlorine is a delicious health food, after all.
However, you'd be dead dead without any NaCl...
I had a biochem proffessor a couple years ago tell us that the nasty cilantro complaint depends on whether or not you have a certain gene.
It tastes great to me, so I guess I don't have it.
I could eat a whole bouquet of cilantro! Yum!
I used to think I could probably handle pigs one day, until BBH shared with us how her pig screamed for a day straight over a food change.
(am I remembering that correctly?)
After the guinea-screaming horrors, the thought of something louder makes me want to :hide
So...I will pig vicariously...
Dang, they want to give them all at once?
We didn't even do that to dogs and cats at my old job. :th
I agree with you, Punkinpeep. I will vaccinate for the big bads, but I see no reason to vaccinate for less serious things.
Not a big fan of unecessary medical treatment.
As a person who has Star Trek: DS9 on in the background right now, I shall have to disagree with the "too many" bit about nerds.
I suspect there are a lot of closet nerds out there in the general population, it just shows more here because we all fly our geek flags high 'n proud...
Yikes, hwillm1977, you're making me go yikes.
I don't eat many packaged things, but I had no idea it was in so many items.
I'm not up on my foodie chemistry, what's the difference in manufactured MSG and the free glutamic acid once it's in the body?
...cuz...you guys can't take my shredded...
That porch looks wonderful!
Ooooh, you could put a million hanging windowboxes along the outside edge of the railing and have the world's biggest herb garden!
Ok, I'm officially making plans with other people's gardens, it's time for me to move out of the shade. :P
Ugh!
Thankfully I got an early fear of MSG because my dad was horribly allergic to it.
I'm not as bad off as that, but it makes my face itch like crazy.
Picky about Chinese restaurants because of it.
Oh neat!
That sucks that she's in the chicken box, but I love those guys.
We have a giant Gray Rat Snake named Big Mama that lives around here, she's quite docile. :)
Eek.
I'm terrified of fennel. I am the "eat anything still or moving slowly" sort, but I detest licorice flavors, so I have never used fennel.
I had a horrible encounter with fennel toothpaste a couple years ago.
Is it better cooked?
I'd love to fear no food, but fennel is my kryptonite.
There is a great eggplant recipe in Joy of Vegetarian Cooking.
You take lengthwise slices of eggplant and warm them in a pan until they are floppy and cooked through.
Then you take a cheese stuffing (I use parm, provolone, and ricotta plus whatever fresh herbs and garlic) and roll a slice of...
The dripworks product has a couple of statements that play a bit fast and loose with scientific reality, but I suppose the product looks sounds enough if all you want to do is prevent buildup.
That Utopic water site has me laughing hard.
They must have taken different chemistry classes than I...
You guys are just great! :love
J and I have been known to have serious debates about who was, in fact, the greatest captain in the history of Starfleet.
I vote Picard with some serious second-place Sisko love, he's a hardcore Kirk guy.
We are so very white and nerdy.
