Im not saying that churches couldnt marry gay couples if they wanted to, Im just saying it would be entirely up to that individual churches doctrine. The Methodist church could go on marrying gay couples who would like to be married under the Methodist Church, but if the Catholic church did not...
Which brings us back to my solution, the legal marriage (civil union) should be completely separated from the holy marriage. Quail, you and your husband could be civilly unioned, to receive legal rights through the government as a couple, and also married by your church, since this is something...
The problem as I see it, is that gay people and churches are fighting over this issue but they are at cross purposes. Religion is concerned about the holy, godly side of the issue, and gay people are concerned about the civil rights, legal benefit side of the issue, so heres what wed do my...
unclejoe, the article you speak of is the article I entered the link to in my original posting! You read it in Backwoods Home, about 5 or 6 years ago. Apparently it made an impression on you too! The article goes on to explain the authors experiments with it, and how the bricks were the...
This is coming from a vegetarian so take this for what it's worth, but relating to what k0xxx says, I've heard that beer makes a great marinade for meats, better than wine. Also, beer is a good fertilizer for house plants, and is also a good hair rinse or bath additive for you skin. And it...
k0xxx, if you do manage to convince your wife to try it, please let us know how it goes. I knew a family years ago that did this and I never found out that was how they heated their house until years later (their house never smelled bad all the times I was there!). I guess it's comparable to...
Okay, someone in another post joked (half-joked?) about the possibility of using goat berries in their pellet stove which reminded me of an article I read a really long time ago about using dried bricks of livestock manure in the woodstove. I love the idea and would love to try it but I lack...
Homemade bread with homemade apple butter for breakfast. Homemade yogurt for lunch. Yes, I'm all about homemade lately! :D I don't know how much I'm saving but I can tell it's really saving me a bundle, compared to buying english muffins, crispbreads, or bagels for breakfast and buying little...
If it's any consolation, I often have the same problem as you miss-thenorth, my pictures are usually not recognized as JPEG, even though they are. I've kind of given up and have resorted to adjectives when I want to share an image! :P
I like your ideas about making a game out of how long you can go before you go grocery shopping. We've always just shopped on Fridays because it's conveniant for us, but I bet we could stretch that a little and save some money, since there's always a few items in the freezer or cupboard that...
We keep our thermostat between 60 and 63 degrees when we're home. It's always a bit challenging at first but we get used to it quickly, and the added benefit is it keeps houseguests from sticking around too long!
I made bread too, 2 loaves! I also kept the thermostat low, 60 degrees, even though I was a bit cold this morning. Once the oven got going for the bread though, I warmed right up. Also, my hubby and I resisted the urge to get in the car and go anywhere, so no gas used.
Sparks, I've never...
Welcome Angie! I hope you're able to find some good ideas here. If you're interested in composting, I recommend you start that now, no time like the present, and you'll be so glad you did when you start your garden in the spring. You don't have to get fancy. Go dig a hole in an inconspicuous...
:lau:yuckyuck
No, it's not just you! I've never had one of these and I hesitated to open this thinking it was some odd joke about Cornish strippers!
Thank you for the recipe, I may try to vegetarianize it somehow. It would be fun to tell my DH to expect Cornish Pasties tonight!:gig
It seems like from a lot of postings lately, many of us are starting to feel the effects of the poor economy right now. While we all need to be able to commiserate with each other and comfort each other, I thought perhaps a thread dedicated to actual things we did on a given day, in order to...
I also reuse our lights every year (I never realized they were considered disposable by anyone!) However, probably this year I will replace ours because now you can get LED Christmas lights, which I believe use 85-90% less energy, so even though I cringe at the idea of throwing away perfectly...
:welcome
Welcome Bebop! What's a sugar glider? :idunno It sounds like something in Willy Wonka's factory! Your plans sound great (and shockingly similar to mine!)!
Congrats Quail! Applesauce is a great first time canning choice. I just finished up my first season canning and I'm hooked. I will warn you though that you might not enjoy the experience too much this first try. I found it a little overwhelming and felt extremely clumsy and must have burned...
