    Schwans

We used to do the Schwans thing when I was growing up, and I do remember the guy being really pushy! It got to the point that my mother would make me go to the door and tell the guy my mother wasnt home and she didnt want anything. It was the only thing that worked since there was nothing more...

Recycling Christmas cards, the funny way!

50 years! Oh my! That's got to be some kind of record! I think we stopped because we lost it when we moved. :( DrakeMaiden I like your idea. I may try that with my dad this year! ;)

Recycling Christmas cards, the funny way!

I don't know what in the world made me think of this, but if you have any friends of family with a great (aka dumb!) sense of humor, you could do what my funny dumb (and I mean that in the kindest way) family did. My dad and his brother are kind of known as the 2 comedians of the family, and I...

What are all of you crafters making for Christmas?

Thanks for all your responses to my insecurities! :D We certainly plan on continuing with our homemade gift tradition, because, well... we love it, and it really is "us" and we definitely put so much more thought and love into our baskets then we do a Made in China foot massager, or a Chia Pet...

    SS Family

I second that! Im so glad you spoke up PioneerGirl. I love how were all so different, but at the same time share the same basic goals and dreams, and in the end, thats all that really matters. It seems like society (at least from my vantage point) has done a great job of dividing people into...

What are all of you crafters making for Christmas?

Okay, heres a somewhat sensitive question for all the crafters/homemade goods makers Who are you making your homemade gifts for, mostly? Neighbors, friends, family? Do the people you make gifts for also tend to give homemade gifts? I ask this question because no one in my family does this...

    How to Make Butter

According to the National Center for Home Food Preservation, butter can be safely stored in the refrigerator for 3 months, or frozen for 12 months. Good luck in your butter endeavor. Please let us know how it goes (and also let us know what songs you make up while you make it!)!

    Cracked Heels!!!!!!!!

I dry my towels on the line so they're good and crunchy and rough, so when I get out of the shower I scrub the heck out of my heels with a dry towel and that seems to help a lot. It's basically the same idea as a pumice, but I have a hard time remembering, or maybe I'm just being lazy! ;)

    Member Titles

Just to be a pain-in-the-you-know-what, here's another idea: What if we just described our location and self sufficiency projects, something like New England Living, Chicken Raising, Gardening, Food Preserving, Self Sufficiency Weekend Warrior (since I work outside of the home during the week...

I like this idea, but I have no idea what I would be! How about something like "Land Deficient Country Living" for those of us who fall between the cracks of Farm in the Suburbs (I don't live in the burbs), and Hobby Farmer (not enough land for that). I think there are several of us on here...

    Thanksgiving dinner (vegetarian and not)

I think the cookbook author actually suggests buying something called "Seitan Quick Mix" for the easy solution. It sounds like it's a "just add water" type of mix and you get a doughy substance that you can then roll out into whatever shape you need. I guess Arrowhead Mills makes a seitan...

    Thanksgiving dinner (vegetarian and not)

You have the same book! I just love mine. Every Sunday since I bought it I've made a recipe from it and my husband and I have loved every single recipe! sufficientforme, I'd be happy to post the recipe, but I'm at work, so I don't have the book available right now. I'll be sure to post it...

    Thanksgiving dinner (vegetarian and not)

I've been a vegetarian most of my life, but I'm a traditionalist when it comes to Thanksgiving, and I just love basically every other food besides turkey in a Thanksgiving meal, so some kind of roasted tofu usually takes the place of the turkey, but this year I'm tempted to try something really...

    This Journal Section

Here's a suggestion, what if the journals did not appear in the "Recent Topics" section at the bottom of the page? Maybe there could just be something somewhere on the page saying "Check out our members journals" or something like that, but the "Recent Topics" would only include the non-journal...

    ScottyG and some random thoughts

The eels are quite popular in our house! One of the better "newer" bands in my opinion. I'm big on lyrics and find that most popular musicians would be much better off if they just shut up and played, but there are exceptions of course, like the eels. The song I was listenting to was from...

    ScottyG and some random thoughts

As Im reading this post the lyrics to the song I'm listening to are: Think of what we used to know and weep Everything once was precious, now everything is cheap And no one has time, since the future has rolled into town And every single year, the price of memory goes down, down, down I think...
