I'm working on a microhydro system myself, here's tons of info on wheels. Good luck,
John

You may have lingering flavors from the plastic bucket method doing wine. Especially after long use. With all glass, it should be no problem.
Some brewers swear that plastic brewed tastes different, like the difference from canned beer to bottle beer.
You need an enamel(no chips/dings) or stainless pot, a 5 gal glass spring water bottle or 5 gal food grad bucket, with spigot if possible. Some food grade clear tubing and airlocks.
I used to brew a lot, mostly amber and dark ales. If you can cook , you can make beer it's easy, just time...
No, I haven't bought anything from otherpower.com, just made some simple low power machines from DC motors.
Their turbine kits look robust enough, I've been reading that site for a long time and it seems at worst the blade could fail, but that is true for most turbines.
They basically...
The big 3 US auto makers have had 30 years since the last oil crisis to make a line of fuel efficient smaller vehicles. A line of vehicles, not a single model. The Japanese companies succeeded because of extreme hard work, engineers sleeping at their desk like Bill Gates working on Windows...
I have no real experience with hydro as well,(just a little experimental) but from what you've described I'd consider researching a low head hydro system

3 acres is considerable...
I built an A frame duck 'Ark' it was fairly simple to make.
Did the same at first kept em in 24/7 but now they're out most of the day.
I hear KK's are the way to go. I've got mallard/domestic crosses very skittish, but still only 7mos. old
Same here, I'd love the plot next door too. It's about 2/3 of an acre. 3 old terrraced paddies, now overgrown with cedar, blocking out the sun.
When we moved in we cut the road access to the neighboring land. I've offered the owner but no one round here ever sells, we were lucky to get our...
Hi enjoy the ride,
150 foot, now that's a tree. Must be wild to watch them in a good wind. After a good blow my yard is covered in dead brown fronds.
I got halfway up my 60-70 foot cedar beanpoles and that scared the heck out of me. Elevated them as much as I could but not enough. In...
The local utility co. wanted to put a wind farm on the mountain range that starts directly behind us. The city and council were all for it, as of course were the construction co's. Then they started surveying for the access road to maintain and install these turbines. It was going to be...
Hi Home Maker,
I feel exactly as you do, should have cut a few more trees. But they're my air conditioner haha. Also I'd have set the house back more to gain more southern facing garden space. My garden get's sun 12-5 only but it's just enough. Always a tough choice planning things.
We've got a massive 1/3 acre surrrounded on 3 sides by forest/mountains and 1 side by rice paddy. About half is wooded or semi-woods, a small garden of raised beds occupies the southernmost 20'X50' with duck coop. Hoping for the ducks to freerange outside the garden from spring. 2 mature plum...
Yes, but I can't decide between sauna or wood fired bath, no jets, no bubbles, just a soak.
The sauna may be easier to make or copy something like this
rotenburo =outdoor bath
I've been avoiding this question because of how ill-prepared I actually am :(
Well, let's say there was an earthquake/typhoon and the house is still semi-standing. All the roads are closed, no electric or water.
1. Food- 2 weeks supply, plus maybe 2 weeks of perishables.
2. Water- the stream...
