I do this a lot. I swear, I am not trying to judge, but it's really interesting to me that people spend crazy money, over and over, on stuff I just wouldn't consider.
DH makes $32,000/yr, gross. I stay at home full time. We have our two kiddos, plus my stepson about 40% of the time.
DH...
It sounds like a mother, but distilled vinegar is different because, well, it's distilled. Distillation is a different process than culturing vinegar.
BUT I am not certain about this. We should all go watch the "Good Eats" about vinegar and then report back.
I will BBL to expand on this, but I have to say this: inherited wealth, in my experience, brings out the absolute worst in people. It is the worst, ugliest kind of entitlement. Unfortunately, I have a lot of experience in this. If I were in your position, I would leave as soon as you have...
Well, making heat with electricity is EXTREMELY kilowatt intensive. Heat is the number one biggest electricity hog, followed by cooling. This is why when you hear about off grid electric applications for heating and cooling, what it actually is is a geothermal pump system. The solar/wind...
This is the major concern that I have about our (hopefully) impending move.
Right now, we have mid level DSL from AT&T. It costs $20 per month. No taxes, no fees, $20 even.
We bought a Roku ($60) and hooked it up to our TV. It streams all sorts of internet content to your TV, most of it for...
LOL, beekissed!
Once DS is in first grade and DD is in fourth grade, they will probably be able to just walk there and back by themselves, assuming that the road has been plowed out. But DD is too little to walk there and back all alone, and DS is far too small to be left at home, and too...
I can sew, and make my own patterns (to an extent)- I had the privilege of being taught by an award winning seamstress- but I have a crap machine. I have not used it much, despite it being purchased brand new, because it's always in the shop! I don't really know enough about machines to feel...
I cook grains like this.
I put the rice/oatmeal/cornmeal/whatever in a big (metal) thermos, and pour boiling water in. Let it sit overnight. In the morning, drain the water off and you have breakfast- well, almost, I usually add butter, milk and maple syrup.
It's a nice alternative...
There's anATV on our craigslist right now that you can switch out the tires for treads. Looks pretty cool to me.
I'd get a snowmobile if one was good and cheap, since I'm mostly concerned about the winter months. However, my preference would be something that I could use whenever.
Suet. Beef suet makes the OG pasty crust. They needed something that held up well. Lard is respectable if suet is unavailable, though. Our friend makes pasties with an all butter crust, and while delicious, they would not have survived a trip tied up in a tin pail and reheating on a shovel...
I have noticed that since we made the switch to real soap- that is, *not* detergent- that we need to bathe less. Detergents, especially commercial shampoo, strip oils so severely that skin rebounds by upping the oil production.
I get far fewer breakouts, and I wash my long, thick hair once...
WHAT? Rutabaga is the best part! Have you ever had mashed rutabagas? Mmmm.
I like broccoli in my pasties, too. And I don't eat mine with ketchup- I use DH's homemade roasted pepper sauce and my homemade sour cream.
I'm weird, I know. But it's yummy.
I googled "snowmobile tow behind" and ended up on the Equinox coach trailer website. No wonder I haven't seen one of those before- they're for kids! The snowmobilers that congregate here are far too rowdy to bring children with them! The bars are within stumbling distance of the sled parking...
I don't think I've ever seen a tow behind for a snomobile, which is funny, because I live in the snowmobiling capital of the world. But you can get used snowmobiles here for a reasonable amount of money. And I've actually seen them parked at the Park & Ride, come to think of it.
