    Making your groceries last longer

The vinegar wash for veggies is a great idea! As for the bread and cheese- I store mine in the freezer. We live 2 hours from town, so freeze milk, cheese, lunchmeat, bread, etc. Rarely have fresh veggies that we dont grow!

    Hey there! Raw milk question...

Maybe call the American Dariy Goat Assoc and see if they can give you contact info of goat breeders near you- if they dont have milk, they may know someone who does. They may not offer to sell raw milk, or may be wary of you, as in many places it is not legal to sell raw milk unless it's for...

    Freezing diced onions to preserve?

I myself dont especially like frozen raw onions, because they are mushy. Better for me is to sautee them, then freeze them, I just like the consistency better. Onions dehydrate pretty well...

Neighborhood kids always @ my house

I totally understand, especially the caring for & losing family part. BTW, watching you take care of your parents will be something your kids will remember & appreciate, even if they aren't too into it right now. :)

What do you do to cut expenses down?

My MIL fell on the ice today and fractured her arm, had to go to the clinic, and will have to go get a cast when the swelling goes down. She is NOT happy, she is NOT the sort to be inactive or ask others to do her chores... I did her laundry today, and will feed our sheep and her chickens...

What do you do to cut expenses down?

Yesterday, I finished my 10' tall garden fence and 4' boundary fence, all made with free, scavenged t-posts and hogwire :D It is not pretty, but the garden fence will keep the deer out, and the boundary fence will keep the coyotes from being able to run through my chicken flock and take off...

I know this is an old thread, but figured I may as well revive it. I was homeschooled. My mom had no idea what she was doing, and didnt even know a parent COULD teach their children at home, but decided to do it anyway- all 4 of us kids are smart, successful, very well adjusted, and healthy...

Roosters, chicks, chicken eggs in NM

We do eat them, and I never give them away :) But they eat a lot, and Id rather feed hens- I can tell when they are quite young that they are roosters, and they are far too small to eat at that age, so if I can get rid of them as soon as I know what they are, I dont have to feed them :) I...
