We have a huge pool but that's full of chemicals. It'd have to be distilled to be useful. What about your spa? Is that buffered and chlorinated? What else do you put in it to keep it from getting slimy?
Render the fat and strain into jars. It keeps for a long time. I usually store mine on the countertop or sometimes in the refrigerator. The colder it is, the longer it will take to go rancid. Even that's not dangerout---just unpleasant.
I've heard that car-driving-over trick before. Haven't tried it but I bet it works if you get the details right. My grandfather knew of a rut where he's throw the nuts and use the car to husk them.
Really, it's not so hard to just put on a pair of dish-washing gloves and peel the husks...
I applied some last night. Today there's basically no discharge. Either she's better or her sister has been grooming her. I guess that's common for rabbits. Anyway, the swelling may have gone down a bit---hard to tell. I washed the eye again today and put more of the stuff on it.
OK, looked a little closer. Rabbit's not drooling and the eye isn't bulging out. The main symptoms are a swelling on the eyelid. The swelling in on the part of the eyelid nearer her nose. The eye looks fine, no odd colors or anything. The eyelid, on the other hand, is so red/pink I can see...
Got a pair of silver velveteen lops for DD1. It's a surprise for Christmas. Anyway, the guy offers to deliver so I take him up on it. Shows up with 2 rabbits but only 3 healthy eyes between the two of them. The one's eye is crusty and the eyelid is swollen.
I'm going to use a warm wet rag...
First of all, I don't even know if this is a good idea. Is castration even needed for meat rabbits? Probably not. My gut tells me it's for suburban rabbits that you let run around your kitchen. Anyway, for curiosity's sake, here's a link to how it's done...
Made a 55-gal cistern in the basement with a used 55-gal barrel with a food-grade plastic liner. Finally filled it, bucket style, after it sat for half a year. My emergency prep mojo is recovering from a slump. It's only enough for about a month of extreme rationed use in cool weather, if...
Nice work. The venting looks top notch. Thanks for posting the pictures. I'll have to take some pictures of the cold room I built. Mine is quite a bit smaller, unfortunately.
Sorry to be a negative Ned but I see some potential issues. If you don't mind, I'll describe them briefly. If...
I'd lean toward a fixed blade because it's reliable and you're less likely to cut yourself. I've had *locked* folders let go. No disaster yet, but I avoid folders for the most part.
There should be a bolster so you don't cut your pointer finger.
The blade should not be symmetric. I have one...
Beer, eh? That's a new one. Bisquick is pretty salty for my taste. It's just flour, salt, and baking powder, so I don't bother with it. I just don't see the labor/time/hassle savings in mixing a few dry ingredients. Oops, ranting...
I suggest you use the Betty Crocker recipe. Or read a...
I have stadium seating roosts in the corner. They're 2x4 lumber with the 4" part horizontal. (It gets cold in MN.) The top roost is shorter than the others. It's about wide enough for 2 chickens but 4 of them cluster up there. They're so crowded they can't even turn around. Hilarious...
Finally got some hens. Not sure what took so long. A friend gave us 5 year-old australorps. Took them a while to figure out the water but now they're drinking OK. I threw in some kitchen scraps and they were less excited than I expected so I wonder if they're still stressed from the move...
Got a gas forge the other day. Just 150 $ for the forge and a 100-lb propane tank. Had to drive almost 8 hours round trip to get it but it was still a deal. Looks like this:

I got the 122. It's surprisingly small. I'll put it on...
There's a cam follower that I need to replace. Still haven't done it.
I've decided to sell off the tractor and implements. The tractor is heavy and keeps me out of the garden until late in the year. I'm going to get a monster rototiller, 8+ HP, instead. I sure like the idea of having a...
