    canning supplies

I didn't see it mentioned anywhere so I'll bring it up. I bought a couple cases of Am Harvest last year because they were cheaper. When I started using them I found that I couldn't get all 7 to fit in the rack at once no matter how I turned them. When I looked at them side by side I noticed they...

    Are you really prepared? Seriously????

Hi Gina, I've been here. Just been reading more than writing. Yes. I'll be doing tomatoes again. I'll also be venturing into all the other veggies as well since I finally broke down and bought a pressure canner. We're going to attempt to put up enough fruit, veggies, soups and stews to make it...

    So I was already paranoid...

We have 3- 22's, 2 rifles and a hand gun. When we started stocking up last year at this time, it was $11.99 for a brick of 550. We bought A LOT before the price ran up. ;)

Well we are going to forget our losses.

I ran into another interesting indicator today. I went to my regular tire dealer to get new tires for the garden tractor today. "Steve" asked me "how's the tree biz". "SLOW" was my response. When I posed the same question to him, his answer really caught me off guard. He has a lot of customers...

    Are you really prepared? Seriously????

I've been climbing trees (literally) since 1982. I have a bumper sticker that says "YOUR BACKYARD IS MY GYM". I can work circles around most 20 somethings. DW is a landscape installer. After work, we come home and work around here till dark. Neither one of us could do a marathon run as we both...

Well we are going to forget our losses.

We also have a small bartering group coming together. One couple has mountains of fruits and berries. Two of us have fowl of one kind or another. One has a couple cows and we're up to ten goats. We are probably in a better position than the others though since we have a 20' well that can be hand...

    who has rain barrels?

I just set up rain barrels last month. 1 - 250 gal. tank, $20. 4- 60gal. barrels for free. All from CL and all full now thanks to 6" of rain in April. This is for watering the garden. I also have the spouting from the barn diverted to a 100 gal. trough for the horses, donkey's and goats. 1 good...

Breaking away from storebought cereal--breakfast ideas needed.

I read through the entire thread and didn't find anything comparable so I decided to add mine. It is rather time consuming to prepare but the kids look forward to it when they see me starting it. I dice up 5-6 potatoes into 1/2"cubes and fry them in a large deep skillet in a little oil with...

    Turkey season

We have a flock of about 40 that has been hanging with the horses since Sept. They have been so close to the house that I could probably get one with a slingshot. Unfortunatly there is no turkey hunting in our township.

    Using PEE as liquid fertilizer....

We planted ornamental corn at the very end of the garden last year. It just so happens that the end of our drainfield is about 10' from that end of the garden. The corn was about 9' tall when it was mature and a lot of the stalks had 3 ears. What do you think, liquid fert ? :hu

    So pitch your theory!

This speaks volumes. Commercial real estate is teetering on the edge of a knife. As consumer spending dwindles, more and more shops are closing their doors. When shops close, the owners of the CRE properties can't pay their mortgage. I don't know about other parts of the country, but around...

    Unexpected Arrival

Ali died tonight. :( He had been doing very well all week but about 5:00 today he stopped hopping around and became lathargic. Called the vet, described the symptoms, and she said "floppy kid syndrome". Told us what to do but it didn't help. He died around 10:30. Jersey is doing great still.

Need ideas on how to build a solar dehydrator

That's what spurred me to do this. We have 2 of those little round electrics and I was running them both almost around the clock last summer and fall. Don't know if you saw my posts, but last year I started trading a guy wood chips for fresh fruit and berries. I was completely overwhelmed with...

Need ideas on how to build a solar dehydrator

It hasn't been in the weather yet. I'm thinking that it will set out all the time once I start using it. That's why I'm going to put a cap on the chimney. Last year I learned to can & dehydrate with electric. This year I'll learn to dry with the sun. I'm sure I'll have some failures but...
