We have to deal with tornados, freezing weather and blizzards here.
I have a section of the basement for tornado warnings.
I also went from heating just with a propane furnace to woodstove heat and bought kerosene lanterns and a camp stove for when the power went out.
This weekend I had the...
I found the joke to be hilarious as well. I have worked with my hubby and know that I wouldn't trade places with him any day. I also know that he has enough sense not to knock what I do either.
About marriage, most people are unhappy for one reason or other and don't want to see others make...
This is a very scary time for all of us. I feel for you and your family. I don't see things getting better soon though. I lost my job in the early 90's and was so worried about everything too. I went on unemployment and that stunk. I decided that since I couldn't find a job I went to...
I have to admit, I don't worry so much about the grocery bill anymore because I have changed the way I shop for groceries.
First of all, I stopped buying processed food like pizza, ready made dinners and soda pop.
I buy mostly canned goods, veggies and fruit I don't have and splurge on...
Thank you everyone for responding to my post.
In response to Miss North; I discontinued my house insurance. Long story short, a friend of mine's house burnt while she was out of town, I think kids did it but now the insurance company said she did it and they won't pay up. I don't want the...
Zenbirder,
I am using oak, ash, poplar and cotton wood. The only one that is still a little new or wet is the ash and just some of that is wet otherwise all of it is bone dry. Dead when it was cut.
My garden is just basic I guess, I haven't tested the soil but It is black dirt, North Dakota...
After paying out my rear for propane last winter I decided to burn wood this winter. Well... I bought the woodstove, chimney and other essentials this summer, installed them, cut more wood than I have ever had the joy of cutting and am now happily burning wood for heat.
I have a few questions...
I know exactly how Farm_Mom feels. At first I loved this forum. I couldn't wait to read what everyone else was doing. I didn't contribute a whole lot because usually my questions were answered on the thread. I felt like I really fit in.
Then one day everyone was agreeing with someone who...
I like the Schwan man. I guess I have never felt like hiding from him. He's the equvilent of a milk man here in ND. If we don't want anything he doesn't push it and he always comes back on the days he says he will. I buy the icecream bars and ice pops for sales. That way I make my money back.
My 14 year old son got a deer on Saturday and I have been having a blast making meals for my family. I made a deer meat gravy with potatoes and green beans Sunday night. The kids said it was better than my moms :D That's saying a lot. Tonight I made deer meat fajita's with pepper, carrots and...
I was making kindling with the extra limbs the other day and using my knees. They started to hurt so I used the cutting horse to leverage the limbs and break them. Now I'm smarter and my knees can heal.
We burn ash, oak, poplar and birch. It is my first year burning wood down here in the lower 48 so I'm learning a lot. We have to cut wood ourselves and we live near a heavily wooded area so it's all free for the taking. We only use dead wood.
BeeKissed, sorry you have to struggle so much...
I was supprised to see that my husband does this with corn. Takes it and places it on the dashboard of his old truck and turns it every day until it's dry. Something he learned from his dad.
I do have moments like that but can't remember one at this time.
My sister is really good for coming...
BeeKissed,
I feel for you. It must be so hard for you at times because you have a lot going on. I think you should be very proud of yourself and your sons for all you have accomplished. I think I wouldn't be as happy about chores and such if I was alone in my endeavors.
Keep your head up...
