    Little Giant incubator question

Add warm water (about 100 degrees)with a long spout household plant watering can. With care you can open the lid just a little and get the end of the spout down into the water channel. I use that type of incubator for over 6 years until I got a chance at a cabinet incubator for a really good...

    TanksHill...Roll on!!

Honey is a good/great price. You will have to work with it more because of the crystalization but just dig out a "glop", put it in a bowl or wide mouth jar and set it in warm water to melt. Don't microwave it. Microwaving heats it too much and you destroy the goodies in raw honey. Gentle heat...

    herbal teas

I love mint tea for any kind of mint. I raise a lot of my own and dry it. I have used a dehydrator but also like to put the sprigs of mint in a paper bag and put it in the refrigerator. The 'frige' method is slow but makes a great product.

Breakfast ideas: Alternatives to extruded cereals

We like fried mush in the winter. Also cut a circle into a slice of bread. Fry the bread in butter or bacon grease with an egg broken into the hole. Can be sunny side up or over easy. Bob's Red Mill has a great hot cereal that is a mixture of grains. I add raisins or other dried fruits to the...

Need a source for sassafras, burdock, licorice

Licorice will affect blood pressure so be careful if you have BP problems. A consulting pharmacist who uses naturals had me stop using licorice tea for breathing problems because of the blood pressure issues.

Val's SS journal- Fair food! Yea!

There are at least 4 sugar houses in the Amish community that I drive for. I have purchased gallons of syrup for several years. I reheat and can in pint jars when I buy a gallon...having half a gallon turn to sugar in the jug taught me to have smaller amounts for our small family. Last night I...

Which is the most self sufficient and yummy turkey breed?

Certainly turkeys can be cross bred between varieties. BUT if you are interested in preserving heritage turkeys remember that for every cross bred poult hatched that is a purebred that is lost. Also if your cross bred birds get out of the food producing chain and into the poult producing chain...

    Opinions....Clothespin Bag

Same basic design with the hole a little higher can be marketed as a plastic bag holder. I was gifted a cute clothespin bag but hung it in the kitchen to "catch" the plastic bags for recycling. I was already using a clothespin bag so used the new one inside the house.

Which is the most self sufficient and yummy turkey breed?

We have raised the Midget Whites for several years. First year we just used the eggs for food, then I got a cabinet incubator and hatched out about 18. Sold some as poults and raised some (spring to late fall). In the fall we had 7 butchered, froze the largest three whole and deboned and froze...

    Walnut syrup. mmmmmm good!

Check with ag or forestry sources about black walnut. Black walnut trees produce a toxic substance which makes it difficult for other plants to grow near it. Don't know if the sap would have any toxic effects especially when you concentrate it by boiling.
