Us too... (my parents are from Wales, but I was born in Canada)... we make really really thin pancakes/crepes sprinkled with sugar and drizzled with fresh squeezed orange juice. I LOVE them that way.
If we make the big thick pancakes I eat them with lots of butter and some of that 'pancake...
My entire life I did NOT want children... not at all... I wanted a farm full of animals and assumed I would have absolutely no time to have a child. A child would just get in the way.
Then when I was around 30 I started considering it... I had been 'Auntie Heather' for 7 years by then, to two...
I don't have any pictures yet, it's the first year I've tried to do it.
I got 8, 5 and 3 foot tall sunflowers... dug a 6x9 garden and planted the tallest sunflowers evenly around the outside as the walls, filling in with the shorter sunflowers and leaving the middle of the 'room' open.
In...
I got it done! I can't wait to see them start poking up out of the ground. Once they start to sprout I'm going to try and take one picture a day until it looks like a house :)
Today I went for a walk with a friend, bought some clothes at the clothing depot and am working on getting laundry...
We have those Signing Times DVDs, and a couple of CD's so we can sing songs in the car too... If I need half an hour to get something done, I can pop Aeryn down to watch some songs and she is so happy... giggling at the lady on the TV.
I try not to have the TV on any longer than 1/2 hour...
I barter my drawing skills for anything that people are willing to give me for it... I got a set of used kitchen cabinets once :) I love being able to use my skill to get me something else in exchange, and 'things' are so much more fun than just getting paid for it.
I have a book called 'Roots, Shoots, Buckets & Boots' I think... it's full of good gardens for kids. The sunflower house is one, there's a garden shaped like a pizza where you pick your toppings, a garden full of giant veggies, a garden where all the flowers come out at night, a tent made of...
So I failed miserably at this on Friday... It was gorgeous outside, so instead I weeded the garden and took Aeryn out to play. Now that she's almost 7 months old she's getting more and more fun to play with :) We practised some sign language (she still doesn't get it, but hopefully soon)...
That thing is fantastic, a yurt is my dream :) We have a country property near Fundy National Park (New Brunswick) that would be perfect for a yurt, unfortunately it's just not in the budget right now...
Good luck with your sale though... I'll pass the link around.
My cat Smokey does this too... at 3 am a couple of weeks ago he was flopping around the bed (he sleeps under the covers and lays across my knees... so I went to sit up and push him off the bed, and felt something WAY too small to be a cat run up the front of my t-shirt... then I'm screaming, the...
I'd love to make this with dark chocolate syrup and marmalade that isn't too sweet... I LOVE chocolate and orange together...
I'm assuming this recipe is one serving right? :drool
That's sounds like where we live... except around 500 people live in the larger town here... and 40 people live in our 'village' where our house is. I loved it when we moved here four years ago, but now it drives me crazy that the closest grocery (8 miles away in the town) doesn't carry...
When I was really young I loved Roy Rogers because I wanted a horse like Trigger....
Then real teen 'crushes' would be Wesley Crusher from Star Trek the Next Generation :idunno and Sean Patrick Flanery in the Young Indiana Jones series...
I'm not making a list for tomorrow... it's supposed to be nice and I'm just going to play it by ear...
I wanted to grow a 'house' for Aeryn out of sunflower walls with morning glories growing up and across twine for the roof... I got all the seeds but haven't gotten around to planting so maybe...
Well it feels good to basically cross a bunch of stuff off a to-do list, even if I was going easy on myself today :)
Here's tomorrow:
1. finish weeding
2. build trellis' for beans and peas before they are growing across the yard
3. harvest rhubarb and process into jam and sauce, I'm hoping for...
1) How long have you been interested in self suffiency?
My entire life... my parents started me on this road by raising pigs, and running a commercial greenhouse full of delicious tomatoes... they are still my favourite food.
2) Does your family think you're nuts or are they as crazy as you...
Here's my list for today:
1. Sign language class with Aeryn
2. Grocery shopping
3. Weed the garden
4. A load each of laundry and dishes
And that's it... I'm aiming low today cause it's still dreary and raining and what I feel like doing is curling up under a quilt and reading all afternoon...
Okay... so apparently I need to add 'write my to-do list' to my to-do list :)
So here's my list for tomorrow, it's supposed to be raining so most of my plans are indoor:
1. organize coupons and write my shopping lists for Tuesday depending on the sales flyers.
2. dishes
3. finish one more...
