I would LOVE to have access to broadband... it takes FOREVER to get anything done on dial-up, but it's the only thing available here... I absolutely refuse to pay for satellite internet ($299.95/month if you want to go as fast as 5Mps around here)
I do think the cheap high speed is a great idea...
Mom paid for a membership to a website called 'Canada Sweepstakes' and they find all the online contests that are open to Canadians, they post the links and mom updates her entries daily. I'm sure there would be something similar for Americans... Mom also got a separate free email address (like...
:welcome
Welcome! We're not too far away (we're a short drive from Moncton, NB)
Your farm is the type of place I'd like to have a few years from now. It's fabulous!
We only have .8 of an acre. When we came to look at the house we were told that the property line ran along a row of 30 foot pine trees between us and the neighbour... when we came to move in he had moved the survey stake 16 feet onto our property and continues to mow that strip on our side of...
I have 'Canning and Preserving for Dummies'.
The first time I used it, I accidentally caught the cover on fire, melted a spoon to the rest of the front cover and nearly burned my kitchen down... my mother thought it was hysterically funny, I can't even can with the 'Dummies' book.
I didn't have any dysfunction in my family life either... hardships yes, but I had a lovely, happy family.
Dad was born in Wales, at the end of World War II. His family came to Canada in 1954. He is the baby of 3 boys. His Grandmother had tea with the Queen (Victoria) after her son died...
We ate at a local restaurant called Ty's and Tails, they use as many local ingredients as possible and it was HEAVENLY.
We split Thai Spring Rolls for an appetizer, I had rack of lamb (cooked rare and it melted in my mouth... the lambs are raised in the pasture behind the restaurant), hubby...
I just got a book from the library called 'Log Cabin Fever' and am planning on attempting a quilt for Aeryn for Christmas... I'm also going to make a little crazy quilt from all her old clothes, but that's a project for a year or so down the road.
I'm going to follow the patterns for the first...
lol... me too... I'm 34 now, and within the next year things are falling into place for me... and a lot of our debts will be paid off :)
My kitchen wishlist for now:
- A meat grinder
- TONS more canning jars and lids
- A stand mixer
- Pantry organizing storage for flour, sugar, etc.
- A fully...
Ours is $1.137 for a litre... but it's regulated pricing so it changes every Wednesday night at midnight according to some complicated formula. (I'm in New Brunswick, Canada)
Since a US gallon has 3.78 litres that works out to $4.30 a gallon this week.
I've been to ours, it's awful... everything is so overpriced it's not even funny... they had an old picture window there last time I was there... probably 5 feet high and 6 feet wide... they wanted $1500 for it.
Old hollow core wood doors are $50 each... it's crazy.
I'd love one that had...
I don't think that the only things I learned academically came from my mother... she just wanted to make sure that we learned everything she wanted us to, and didn't count 100% on the school system for doing that. I graduated from high school in the top 2% of my class of 900, I did play in the...
It depends on where you are too... I'm in Canada, and I'm only about a two hour drive to the border of Maine so sometimes it could be worth the gas money to drive across the border to get groceries... I've seen turkey or chicken specials that are less than $1.00/pound... here turkey is about...
Luckily my hubby is a garbage man, so although he's technically not allowed to pick, he does... he picks up commercial dumpsters.
From a home improvement dumpster we have gotten, two energy star steel doors, an interior door and a bathroom vanity...
A construction site yielded some copper...
My parents did this... I had 'homeschooling' in the evenings and on weekends we had trips to art galleries, museums, farms, retirement homes, etc... My mother had a commercial greenhouse and we grew hydroponic tomatoes for grocery stores... it meant we never had alot of money, but she was always...
My sister-in-law is having her 'dirty thirty' birthday party Saturday... so I'm dressing up and heading out to bars with her and her friends. This will be the first time I've gone to a bar in probably three years and I'm not particularly looking forward to it. lol
Sunday will be a quiet day at...
Unfortunately that's how my budget goes too... a 5 pound chicken at the farmer's market is about $25-30... at the grocery store a whole chicken is about $10... when my weekly food budget is $80, I can't afford to buy the meat from the market.
Goat's milk I do buy at the market because I can buy...
Okay, so this may be a dumb question... I've wanted to make soap for a while and this recipe seems really easy so I think this will be what I try. I'd like to make the honey/oatmeal variation but I just wanted to make sure I get the variation right. Did you only put 8 oz of goat milk in, no...
We lost power last night around 1am... and it finally came back on about an hour ago. We had a lovely (although windy) quiet day at home. Trees came down across our road, along with the power lines... so for most of the day we were trapped here. :) Hubby didn't have to work since power...
