My Favorite Season! ---- YARD SALE SEASON!!! :D

I stopped at one the other day that had TONS of baby clothes hanging on ropes, and I assumed they would be 50 cents or a dollar each outfit... so I had a couple cute things picked out... The woman stopped by and said 'it's $1.00 for a bag of clothes, I'll grab you a bag' When she came back she...

    Fair price for garden starts?

yep... around here you can get small 4-packs for about $1.50, up to large tomato plants (not really starts, but taller than knee high plants) for $5.99 each. I was thinking about selling starts next year since every thing seemed to do great this year for me... although stuff died when I...

How much do you spend on food?

Yeah, food prices can vary a lot... Chickens are on sale this week (whole regular grocery store chickens) for 1.99/pound, and that's 50% off. Medium ground beef is about $4.00/pound. Milk is $7.20/gallon (regular milk, not organic) I can't even imagine being able to eat for $50/week and there...

    Today's "to-do" list

Aeryn is actually a fantastic sleeper... because we've been doing so many renos she's absolutely used to listening to work going on, and I think she just assumes it always sounds like that... I can run a table saw or hammer in another room while she's sleeping. She naps downstairs if I'm...

    Today's "to-do" list

I love this idea... it'll probably help keep me a little more focused on what I'm supposed to be doing, instead of only playing with a baby all day :) Here's my list for Monday, most of which needs to be done during baby nap times: 1) finish a portrait that needs done for Father's day 2)...

    Carfree in the Country

Yep... we're looking for a house closer to town (but still rural) now if we can qualify for financing... we pay about $700/month for gas... our mortgage is $420. We would SAVE more in gas than it would cost to buy another house.

    Carfree in the Country

I would love to be car free... we're 45 miles away from public transportation though, and we both work weird shifts so it's next to impossible to carpool with anyone on a regular basis... For now I don't think there's really anything we can do. I HATE the bus system in the town where we...

    Living without a dryer

We have a woodstove, so in the wintertime I hang lines back and forth across the kitchen... it takes about 30 minutes for a load to dry with the heat being thrown off the woodstove... as an added bonus it adds some moisture to the air in the house :)

You cannot beat the taste of home grown tomatoes

mmmm..... I've still got a week before I can put my tomato seedlings outside, and a LOOOONG time before I get tomatoes but I'm looking forward to it and can't wait!

    Raised bed greenhouse heating DIY

I HIGHLY recommend this book too... most of his harvesting in the winter are things that sort of go into a stasis, but that can still be harvested fresh year round... He harvests year round in Maine without using any supplemental heating... Someday I aspire to be that good at the gardening...

How to save money while MOVING across the country?

I belong to a website called www.couchsurfing.org It connects people backpacking/travelling around with places to stay for free... we've had people pull in to our yard (it's set up in advance), set up a tent, share a meal and a campfire with us and pull out in the morning. It's been great for...

    Envelope Budgeting System?

The only things we put in jars (envelopes) are: Groceries Transportation (gas) Clothing and Gifts Entertainment Other (baby stuff, pets and animals go here) EVERYTHING else is done electronically and taken out the day I get paid... mortgage, bills, savings, insurance, taxes and investments...

    Envelope Budgeting System?

We use something similar... just in canning jars instead of envelopes... We leave bank cards and the credit card at home, and once a week take out the money we need for our budget... put it in the appropriate jar and get receipts for EVERYTHING. It's helped us be a lot more concious of where...

Free's 2011 pig project....free food from now on!!!!

Don't forget grocery stores... we have a local independant grocery store and they will give away veggies that have gone past the 'sell by' freshness... maybe big chains wouldn't do that, but you can get TONS of veggies like that. They gave me stuff that I fed to my chickens last year.

Can someone help me with a picture?

Make sure if you are using for online or other advertising people in various places are going to see, don't just use a random photo without asking permission... or at least check that the photo doesn't have a copyright on it. There are stock photography sites that have free photos to download...

    Happy Mother's Day!

Today is my very first Mother's day :) I didn't have to get out of bed at 6:30, hubby got up and fed the animals, warmed up a bottle, fed and changed Aeryn, and is now cooking what smells like a fantastic breakfast! I'm so excited... I got a burning bush for my Mother's Day present... I've...
