Hey Deb,
Thanks for the advise. I do have a riding mower but something is wrong with the battery, or the charger, because it discharges the battery when it just sits around, so I need to disconnect the battery all the time. I also don't have a wagon for it, or a tractor to push manure. I will...
Ah Sunday...how I drag this day. This is usually when I realize what I forgot to do all of Saturday (or couldn't do due to the weather) and I end up running myself ragged. I need to clean out the dumplings left behind by 6 horses in 2.5 days, and it is usually well over 6 wheelbarrows a day...
Yeah, so I already sold 10 bottled of honey. It is so nice to see people excited about honey these days :)
Big upset there at the KY Derby. Don't know what happened to Calvin Borel, he just never seemed to reach the rail and just fell further and further behind. Oh well...
So I got done rendering my first bit of beeswax today. Looks like I might have upward 1/2 pound by the time it hardens, we'll see. Some more honey had gathered on the bottom of the pots so I have that draining through cheesecloth. By the time I get done I will have produced 30lbs of honey that I...
Good to hear you got some good rest. I am planning on sleeping in tomorrow too, have been working 6Am's to 11:30pm's the last few days plus I have a job interview today, so after that and all the chores I will be tired. Horses will have to live with a late breakfast tomorrow.
Colic is always...
I concur. I think I ate more honey the last few days than the entire year before. People are very excited about it here at work. They love the bottles- feels nice after all that work.
Hey Deb,
I had the exact same thing happen with a colicy horse last year. She would just keep on laying down, but the vet couldn't detect anything. One dose of Banamine and she could plow through walls again within 5min. Sometimes i wonder about these horses :barnie
Hey Trim,
thanks for the kind words. My hubby is a busy man, he is away from home more than he wishes. This is his busy time, but it is also the farms busy time. He wants to be here and help me so I don't have to fend for myself, but he has to go to work and travel. I try and give him as much...
Good to hear things are going well. I need to go to the dentist soon too. Have been so busy lately, those postcards urging me to come in have been buried on the kitchen table for a while :hide
Still working on filtering my batch of honey. I should be done with the first step tonight. Need to get cheesecloth and one of those handy buckets with a spicket on the bottom for bottling. I have been getting recipes for rendering beeswax so I will try that too once I am done. Looks like I will...
Hey Deb,
Good to hear you got the horses all taken care of. Isnt it just crazy how much time just the regular chores take every single day? I always have a hard time explaining it to hubby. He thinks I can get everything done in an hour and them I am fresh and relaxed to tackle more projects...
I have the same problems when I tell my horses to clean up after themselves. Shesh, like that is too much to ask
Here, wikipedia saved me from having to explain hardpan. Imagine having concrete under your topsoil. And it is EVERYWHERE!
In soil science, agriculture and gardening...
Ah, I see where that rain was coming from we are having right now. We have sand and hardpan up here. Some areas drain well where there is lots of sand, but most areas have hard pan about 5in under the surface. We have pump systems going across all pastures so I can relate to your pain. I will be...
