    Newbie on Board

Farmer Chick, I grew up in Marlton area, and it was the same. I would go back and every year it would be different. I am sure parts of NC are the same way, Jersey is just smaller. krjwaj, I'm in Plumsted, next to Jackson. I had season passes when the kids were younger. We used to go all day...

    YARD SALE SEASON!!!

Farmer chick Do they have a flea market area near your farmer's market, they do here, just a walk away. When we go we pick a table around 5 am and walk our way around the place looking at people's stuff as they put it out, and then someone stays at our table and puts out our stuff. That way we...

    Home made laundry soap

I used the chopper but the pieces have to be small to begin with so I went back to the grater. I think the larger food processors with the top loader could handle the whole bar. lin

    My DH won't even try

Hi there Better Half, I think your goal should be to think along the same lines. Sometimes the harder life is then the better your marriage can be. My husband and I have been through some very tough times, and we argue, but we stand by each other. We just celebrated our 25th anniversary. A...

    Raising geese for down...anyone?

I have to let you know that I took care of a wild goose for a few days while waiting for animal control to pick him up (he had been hit by a car). Now I have 20 chickens, and the smell does not bother me, but the smell of goose droppings seems much more pungent. After three days I was happy to...

Whos has seen the movie Hancock?

I didn't see it but saw Mamma Mia last night and loved it, even though I went alone because the rest of my family went to see Dark Night. I don't like the new dark movies, I mean visually dark, I just don't enjoy not seeing the sunshine. Ha! lin

Thanks risurocket and farmer chick, I'll go post tips in appropriate forums. Here's my first tip. Can, dehydrate and freeze now. Esp your favorite foods like corn and tomatoes to make lots of winter meals. Today I picked blackberries straight off the vine into ziplock bags and tossed them...

    quick pickles

You are all people after my own heart, I reuse pickle juice also. And I would probably use pickle juice for my own pickles with the added vinegar, but I wouldn't can them I would just let them soak the juice for a week or two and then eat them. If I was canning I would make a huge batch anyway. lin

    I would like to share

I also have an old colander, without the legs, I just put a bowl upside down in the sink when I use it so the water drains without it touching the bottom of the sink. My mom had a colander that I just loved and my brother ended up with it, and then he gave it to his father-in-law and I told him...

    Who here cans??

Hi there, I am new to this site, have posted on backyard chickens only a few times. Just wanted to let you know that anything with meat requires pressure cooking, if you haven't canned much I would suggest the Ball Canning Book, they also have a website. You can go to their forum and ask canning...
