    soapmaking supplies?

To render fat of any kind, grind it up or cut it in small pieces. Put it in a pot on the stove over a low to medium flame. You don't want it too hot or it will start smoking and become a fire hazard. Keep a tight fitting lid handy. The fat will slowly heat up releasing the liquid oils. When...

Gluten/dairy free & I'm feeling better now! (update)

Dace, you can make your own raw milk yogurt. It's easy. It tends to be not as firm as commercial yogurt, but that can be solved with a bit of unflavored gelatin.

For hazy glasses, try the Tang. You could also add vinegar to the rinse cycle.

    Hard water/laundry issue

I use vinegar in each wash load too. I use home made detergent but have noticed that adding an aditioanal "part" of baking soda to the borax and washing soda really makes a difference in how fresh the laundry is. We have very hard well water and the calcium tends to build up in the dish...

The dog doesn't sound like much fun. I think wearing the baby would be the easiest way to chores. I've lost track of what day the duck eggs are on. Have you candled? Any wigglers? How's Charlie doing?

    Make your own washing soda

I have started using both washing AND baking soda in my soap. What I noticed was that it does not gel like before. The top reqires a bit of mixing to break up what gels on top, but I much prefer the thin liquid cosistancy of this other way as it is easier for me to dispence and store. I use old...

Jacket project question.....what to bind with?

I have used Lycra type fabrics ( think bathing suit) to bind fleece articles. I think I still have a piece of black lying around some where. It finishes beautifully and stands up to wearing well.

    Stinky he washer

I used that tide cleaner and It was awful!! It smelled worse than when I started. On a "funny" note, I once found a decaying sock in the gasket of my old washer. I have been pretty regular in my cleaning of the washer ever since.
