7/18/2010 update
Figured I don't have as much as other going on, only do weekly updates for now.
Ever have one of those weeks you did alot, yet didn't get much accomplished? That was my past week. I'd been hit with a flood two weeks before and then the past week had a tooth infection. By last...
Permits by cities can drive you nuts. I can see from thier point of view, someone wires a house wrong you can cause harm to yourself, family and potentially others. But sheesh! I'm not even allowed to power wash myside walk without a permit! Or tuckpoint bricks? How do you mess that up??? It's...
*what books I am keeping, includes everything I can get my hands on written by Ann McCaffery
*Someplace I in my pile of stuff I have a full sized plans for the Enterprise
*Not only do I have Firefly/Sernitiy, I've blake 7, Dr.Who, Red Dwarf all on DVD. I bought my daughter a copy of Ewoks...
XPC's right. I only mentioned the film because we had still had the orginal sash single pane windows in our home untill summer of 2008. Drafty as all get out. Every fall I'd dig out this huge roll of 5 mil plastic to cover the whole thing up with or the living room would have been too darn cold.
Check out your local community college. Many offer non-credit continuing education courses. Such things as basic home wiring, plumbing, ect. Even expand on what you already know, take a course in asia-wok cooking or join a cooking club. Great way to meet and make new friends too.
Don't get me started on power companies!!! We've got ComEd here. I think after Hawaii, and some other places out west, we've the most expensive electric in the country here in Illinois. Reason? A really stupid one. Anyone remember 3 Mile island??? Before that happened ComEd was in the process of...
Oh, I forgot to mention. If you like the idea of framing and then vaneer. I would suggest then to dig out a footing and either pour some concrete or use pavers or something. While treated lumber will last longer exposed to the weather you still want to get it off the ground! At least and few inches.
How to properly set aircondition was one of my biggest pet peeves I had with my mother...of all people! While on one had she wouldn't set it so cold as you would need a sweater in mid July, she was totally opposite, she set it so high that by the time it would kick back on the house would be...
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume that your hot water tank is electric? Since you're asking on how to save on electricity. I agree with XPC, on demand hotwater heaters are still too "new" to recover your investment. But there are things you can do with standard tanks. First off, what...
I too am allergic to tetanus shots as well. Last one I had I was around 10yrs old. I'd been bitten by a dog. Lucily it was a nieghbor's dog, and had had it's shots, so there was no worries about rabbies or such. But to be "safe", my doc insisted on a tetanus. The reaction was something like...
I actually got lucky, I was going through all the meds in the house. Dumping out mom's chemo pills and stuff related to cancer ect. I happened upong some antibotics I had gotten when I managed to drive a nail through one of my fingers earlier this year. That helped alot. The tooth in question is...
One thing I'm jealous of those that live in warmer growing zones, is the varity of plants you can grow that those of us further north can never hope to grow unless we invest in a green house or something. Prime examples, you can grow dwarf citrus trees. Another I really wish I could grow is...
SKR8PN,
Doh! I'm doing a "V-8" slap to the head. Of course charcoal is for heat. As a side note I had once researched hobby blacksmithing and read all about how it requires charcoal or coal for getting the fire hot enough to work the metal with. Same could be said about cooking, you need heat...
I'm no expert, just going by past experiences, but some plants actually love it hotter. The key is how much water they get while it's hot. Unless you're under a watering ban, I'd give it another try. Would help to ask local nurseries which strains can tollerate heat better then others.
I dunno, I prefer hardwoods, even for grilling. Although I do have a gas tail gating grill for picnicing. I actually prefer hard woods, or my fav apple for bbq/grillin'. Did you build that smoker/grill yourself, or buy it? I have a design question.
Urban Dreamer,
May I recommend... Hit up Crosman's website. Check out the custom shoppe. That's where I had them make me a .22 pistol w/14" long barrel. Cost was just a hair over $100, add another $50 or so for an average scope. Plenty of enough power to take back yard pests. If you want more...

WOW!!! that is one sweeeeet smoker ya got there! I love it! Once I get squared away, would love to see some more details, can fashion one up myself when I get another welder. Really like the set up you have with the shack. Great setup! Where in the world can you order or buy that much...
First off, no worries folks, I'm not about to have cat or dog for dinner. Althought be it, one of my neighbors just did get one of those ankle biting yappy dogs that barks constantly for an hour after a cricket farts! Haven't though about crow, since I never see any. Robins, cardinals, bluejays...
I started urban hunting well over a year ago. Had to. Tried every avenue we could at the time to join local food banks and food stamp program. But that was then, this is now. I've actually not only become accustome to, but actually like rabbit and squirrel now. But I think I've ran through every...
