    fishing virgin

Just keep in mind that you can spend as much as you want in the bait and tackle aisle. All you REALLY need is a decent rod and reel (don't buy the cheap little kids package and you don't need the most expensive one either). A package of small hooks, some small split shot sinkers, a small...

    How to start prepping?

I assume you have been reading here for a while and feel as if you may have come late to the party. Much of the gloom and doom scenarios can make preparing seem like an insurmountable task. Withiut a window on your world there are a few thing I would advise you to do tommorrow. Start with baby...

    Solar room heaters

The last time I had full sun I put a thermometer directly against the window pane above my passive heater (actualy it isn't passive anymore as I added a solar powered fan) the temperature against the window pane was 94 degrees. I then held the thermometer in front of the fan and the air temp...

You can go here... http://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=2593-Treats_Chart There is a list of what is acceptable to feed chickens and what NOT to feed them at the bottom of the page. You will notice dried or undercooked beans is on the list of what NOT to feed. Good luck

Food Prices, Shortages & Inflation - The Trash Index

I was in the local grocery store yesterday. Usually I pick up a head of cabbage for the chickens as they have not been allowed out. 99 cents a lb. Heck the whole chicken I bought was only 88 cents a lb. Celery was 40 cents higher than last week and it was all rubbery. Cheapest loaf of wheat...

    baking stone substitute

Were it me to try that I would use a very small piece of the stone and insure the grill has a cover. You can't just chip bluestone to cut it as it will flake. Which is why I would have my doubts about a baking stone application. If you don't have a small piece you would need a masonry saw to cut it.

    baking stone substitute

Be Careful! You could get badly hurt trying to find out. Some stone will explode when heated at high temperature. Especially any stone that came from an underwater source. I also have a good deal of bluestone that I reclaimed from a dumpster at a job site that installed it as a walkway. I...

And Now For Something Completely Different...

It would be very interesting to hear from those north of the border. To me it would seem that a USA "peace keeping" force moving to Canadian territory would seem a lot more threatening than the other way around just because the USA has a reputation world wide as an "aggressor". Although through...

:gig Country boys do the same. It isn't just in the coop you know. My girls leave me little (sometimes not so little) presents everywhere they go. I have to check 'em when I put them on and check 'em agin when I get to the truck. :barnie

    Silver Coins WTSHTF?

Considering how silver prices are advancing you should be able to pay your property tax in full with one silver round next year. I'm in one of those "draconian states". Five years ago it would have taken 320 silver rounds to pay my property tax. Today it would take 48. By all projections next...

    Thunderstorm Fix

I Love a good thunderstorm. Under the right conditions. Condition one... I am indoors looking out. Condition two... It does no damage to my house or property. Some of the storms that come through here in the spring can be quite worriesome as they are often accompanied by tornadoes.

    Potatoes/ Seed potatoes....the same??

Actually none. Except. When you purchase seed potatoes they come treated with a rooting hormone. You can plant potatoes from the grocery store but you would need to cover them with the hormone yourself.

A good friend and I were just just last week putting on paper the rough sketches for a pop can solar dehydrator. That is on my list of projects for this summer.

    Stocking up?? How is everyone?

Whenever I go to the store my rule is... If you need one buy four. It is NOT going to be cheaper tomorrow. Especially spices I can't grow. I also need to expand my shelving. I had better get to it as lumber is not going to be cheaper tomorrow.

    Silver Coins WTSHTF?

You Can't eat it. My house payment however is locked in at a specific price and as the value of silver rises I can sell the silver to defer that cost to enable me to afford other things like a pig that I can eat. I may not be able to eat it but JP Morgan Chase will and it will pay my property...
