I have a doe with just one doeling on her. I milk her in the morning and night. In the morning I get over a half gallon - at night, since the baby has been on her all day, I don't get much over a cup. I milk her at night just to keep the demand up - she had triplets but the two boys have been...
She's adorable! Congratulations!!!
How did your little one do during the birth? I'm curious - I have seven kiddos and have had to multi task in some unbelieve scenarios, juggling babies and doing whatever else. I love to hear mama stories - do tell!
I have a 2 month old buckling and a 5 week old doeling. I'm bottle raising him to breed my two adult does and hopefully the little doeling if/when she's big enough. Right now the doeling is put in with him at night so I can milk her mama in the a.m.
I've read at about 2 months they are...
mine was spreading quickly. As soon as I started the combo it stopped speading and started drying up/getting smaller immediately.
Today we figure she's about 90% improved - that's a week of treatment. By the end of the week I'm expecting her to be good as new. I let hers go too long before...

What about room temperature yogurt? On ebay there's a seller that has a whole slew of yogurt cultures (slew, what exactly is that? It's alot, right?!) Viili, Piima, Caspian Sea, Greek, Bolgarian and a couple others that I can't remember right now. But most of them...
I'm looking at ordering some yogurt cultures. I've only ever used the yogormet brand powder starter, along with my yogurt maker. I prefer a thicker yogurt (spoonable rather than drinkable) and I don't like to use powdered milk, so thickening that way isn't an option for us.
I didn't realize...
It may be a staph infection - we're dealing with that in one of our goats currently. It's clearing up fast now that I'm on the right treatment track. I bought chorhexidine wash (can be bought at a feed store but mine didn't have it so I bought the people version called Hibicleanse at the...
I soak oatmeal, millet, buckwheat, or amaranth. Because the prices have skyrockedted on buckwheat and amaranth we mostly use just oatmeal or millet. We soak it with a little buttermilk and cook it up the next day. It our main staple breakfast.
I was going to suggest lanolin, but looks like you've got that covered. My kids get very dry, sometimes cracking skin in the winter/early spring and nothing seems to be as effective as rubbing lanolin on and letting them sleep overnight - the skin always starts to heal quickly, by morning it's...
We add about a Tablespoon to our hot cereal in the mornings. We soak it overnight in buttermilk first and then add the coconut oil as we're serving it. It tastes yummy that way - along with a little stevia and cinnomon.
My vote is on copper deficiency. It's sometimes called "spectacle disease" because it appears as white circles around the eyes (like the goat is wearing glasses).
Here's a link to one article mentioning it:

Thank you! Since it's spring and still pretty cool out I'll plan out about 5 days worth and see how that turns out. I have two goats, 16 mature chickens, and another 10 pullets that will be switched to whole grains soon. My goats already get soaked grains but the chickens have just been...
Something for her to consider doing at her age in the mean time would be pet sitting or dog walking. In our state at 13 you can legally babysit - I would imagine pet sitting would be similar. She could get licensed and bonded even - if she wanted to make a true business out of it. It would be...
FM - another question. How long do you find you're able to keep sprouts in a useable state before they start to get yucky? I know temp and humidity is going to be a factor, I'm just wondering how much grain I should start with initially and that will depend on how long we can make one bucket...
Nettles are actually highly nutritious. I drink nettle tea throughout my pregnancies to help with my low iron levels. Nettle soup is supposed to be fabulous, though I haven't had it myself. I don't think they'd be poisonous to animals at all - though they can cause quite the painful rash on...
These guys were oustside a store the other day collecting signatures here in Washington. He was pretty upset that I woudn't sign his petition. He had all sorts of ugly photos of mistreated caged chickens. "oh! Poor chicken!" People were signing left and right. They tell you this just puts...
