Oh boy. Don't be angry, but I'd say no. It does look pretty flimsy & small and it looks like it would fly away.
With the $100 you'd spend & with your skills, you could build one much nicer/sturdier that would last for years.
I'd vote Buckeyes then. Not sure about their inclination towards broodiness, but they fill the rest of your requirements.
Just curious.....why did the red Stars disappoint?
Every civilized flock should have a mailbox!
Actually Dace, one of my rescues got fan mail for a while....
She was featured in PeoplePets and Angel Animals network.

Sink them in the ground & put plants in them? Something like mint that will spread if not contained, so the box prevents it from taking over your yard.....
Paint it and attach it to the chicken coop?
Didn't they make it illegal now to give your kid alcohol?
When I was a kid I got whiskey & honey for a sore throat and on family gatherings the cousins and I all got 'Moscow Mules' (vodka, ginger beer & lime in a copper mug) but I suspect that was just to shut us up & make us fall asleep...
There's no way she could get away, it must feel like she has a house on her back!
Thanks for letting me know this is normal, I hope I can get used to it before I run out there and break his neck.
My tom has begun trying to mate his girls. I was horrified to witness this and to discover he's doing it wrong! He just stands on here back, smooshing her flat to the ground - head, tail & wings all flat in the dirt. The others gather around & try to peck her head while she makes these sad cries...
I second the P.O. Box and also a box or file cabinet or trunk in the house that has a lock as well. That way, you can keep whatever you want private but your mom can still get in if something happens to you or the cottage. You don't have to say anything about it. I would let her have the tidying...
Thanks for the article.....it was interesting. I peeked at the "what goods to have on hand for barter" and most of it doesn't match my mental list......I guess I think in terms of food too much.
My neighbors have all the tools & skills, but I have chickens, turkeys, seeds, spices, soap...
Tankshill, the reality is not far from what you described (except for the snake, so far.) :D
rebecca, can't imagine what a tornado can do to land, but I bet it's devastating. I've lived in row homes, so having all this space & buildings is amazing. Even more amazing is that it all cost less...
Oh yes, I've got a riding mower. I think at least two acres here is grass, so a push mower is just not an option.
Can't relax on it though, there are so many tree stumps & holes and obstacles, not to mention last summer there was a copperhead living under a tree branch in the field......I always...
There actually is a pair of ladies up the road a ways that are gay.
Everyone is scared to death of them - as if it's contagious or something.
I've met them and they're very nice and perfectly content to shut out the world & live in their little house. Everyone should be so happy...
Spending more $ for quality almost always pays off and how much happier you'll be raising interesting birds as opposed to a pile of hatchery lookalikes. So, you have the official green light as long as you post pics for us all to admire! :P
Y'all are crackin' me up. I almost feel sorry for him now.
Blackbird, my best friend is a gunsmith and his twin brother is a weapons instructor, so I'm armed to the teeth and fairly proficient. My neighbors think I'm a harmless little tree hugging vegetarian.......I'm ok with that. ;)
So basically it's just a tedious process all the way around and I need to just suck it up. :P
Alright then. I have noticed that the stuff I grew is much more potent than the store bought, so it's worth the ag.
Gettin' rowdy up in here......sticks & dogs & attack emus.
Remember, this is the guy who takes care of my pets when I'm gone. Matter of fact, I have 2 freerange roos who attack every male that comes on the property except for him.
I can't really cut off contact because he has to drive by my...
