why do you love being single

Here's few of mine: I can drink right from the pitcher and eat dinner out of the pot (less dishes to wash) I can do weird dances, sing badly at the top of my lungs and talk baby talk to the critters without getting the "you're crazy" look. I can learn how to build things & fix things at my...

Meriruka's Tales - need advice on squash

Almost done the dr/office carpet project. One visible seam, but not a whole lot I can do about it but I'm pretty pleased with the results: I've been contemplating getting a pair of emu chicks from a nearby town, just weighing pros & cons & doing research.........mostly wondering if it's a crazy...

    Potato chip cravings.. Alternatives?

Sorry guys, I guess my views on diet are too simplistic. Eat more carbs/fat/calories then your body can burn - you gain weight. I tried making my own baked potato chips, results not so good. Anyone know a good method?

    Potato chip cravings.. Alternatives?

Pretty sure popcorn is a complex carb and it has a decent amount of fiber..... Kale is also good if you bake it to a crunch, maybe sprinkle a little parm on it. I only make what I will eat that day because day 2 it gets limp, even stored in an airtight container.

    Potato chip cravings.. Alternatives?

Baked Parsnip chips! Love those things! Slice parsnips very thin, spray a cookie sheet w/ something like Pam or smear with a thin layer of vegetable oil. (I use peanut oil) Place the slices on the sheet in a single layer, bake at 325 until crisp. (Better results if you flip the slices halfway...

    Quail_Antwerp: Words from the Barnyard...

I can imagine the sinking feeling you had seeing that and worrying your piggies were under it. So glad they are ok!

Meriruka's Tales - need advice on squash

Yes, I know how you feel. They would have to drag me kicking & screaming away from here. So, no big snow here. However some genius made the screen door to the porch even with the eave. The door just clears the rain gutter except when there's snow in it. Usually I remember, but I just went out...

Ladies, may I ask you a question in private?

That's awful. Another example of the "animals are disposable" attitude that makes me crazy angry. Soon I'll be unfit for human company. Oh wait.....it's already happened. :)

Winter Storm Thread....how deep is your snow?

Nothing going on here (South VA) either. 4" of snow yesterday then rain which got rid of the new stuff plus some of the old snow from last week. I loaded up the poultry pens with food & heated waterers, I baked bread & made soup and was all ready to make a blanket cocoon with the cats and read...

Ladies, may I ask you a question in private?

I've been reading with interest, mostly trying to see at what age this process begins, but it looks like the age range is all over the board so now I'm just hoping to learn to recognise the signs when it's my turn. It doen't sound like fun, so sorry for all of you going through it! I am...

Jason closes his journal... Thanks!! I love you!!

Auctions are so much fun! Long ago I realized I have no eye for what is valuable & what is not, especially when I see something that looks like junk to me go for hundreds. So now I just pick what I like & decide in my head how much I will spend to have it. That means that my house is decorated...

    Centralia, PA

Personally, I think they should just be allowed to stay. I can never feel taking someone's home is right. But, there is every indication the place is still dangerous. If the remaining residents had died (like that little boy almost did) can you imagine the outcry from everyone- blaming the...

Meriruka's Tales - need advice on squash

Sadly the cabin is in pretty bad shape. It was used as a coop for (from the looks of the floor) several millenia. The far side is caving in, the only thing holding it up is a tree that has grown up through the logs. I don't have the skills or the $ to fix it, but I can't bring myself to tear it...

Meriruka's Tales - need advice on squash

The Vail B, thanks for the well-wishes re my hand. It was my own fault, trying to pry a dried paint roller off the roller handle with a knife. Of course the knife slipped and well, it was graphic.. Pulling it out I'm ashamed to say I nearly swooned. Modern P., I will definitely get a copy of...

Great tractor! It's just amazing how the older they are, the longer they last. Is yours hard to drive?

Meriruka's Tales - need advice on squash

The place has a ton of outbuildings: The only inconvenience is that some of the property is on the other side of the road. Luckily, it's a dead end road with only a few families at the end of it. You can see the original house below, a log cabin. I can't imagine a family in that tiny little...
