    Hawthorn for lowering blood pressure!

The fruit. Traditionally dried, more recently as a standardized extract, to get the flavonoids and proanthocyanidins. Note that the studies showing cardiovascular benefit center on genus Crataegus, not the evergreen shrub genus Rhaphiolepis. Two different plants with the same common name.

CONFEDERATE COFFEE SUBSTITUTES Articles from Civil War Newspapers

I can understand some people wanting a home-growable substitute for Coffea aribica, just for the satisfaction of making their own black bitter liquid to drink. For those preparing for a SHTF situation, though, it appears that none of those substitutes contain any appreciable amount of caffeine...

    Herbal Studies

I don't have the exact time frame (and it will vary from species to species, and upon the size of the log), but there is a *considerable* time involved before a buried log will stop consuming nutrients from the soil as the decay process starts. My guess would be a few years but, again, I don't...

    Why not GM?

I have a dual Masters Degree in biology and nursing. I'm pretty familiar with the effects of food on humans. Now, do you have any proof that GMO crops cause harmful effects on humans or are you intent on continuing to rhetorically dance around that question?

    Why not GM?

I am far from ignorant in the fields of botany and plant functional genomics. Now, do you have any proof that GMO crops cause harmful effects in humans, or will you just continue to assert that as your opinion?

    Why not GM?

    1. One of your consistent errors is presuming that others have the same difficulties assimilating information that you do. Not all of us do. 2. Nothing you have cited proves that GMO crops are harmful. 3. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts. Enjoy your opinion.

    Why not GM?

I am intimately familiar with the laws regarding organic farming. I have read Agenda 21 and the 5-, 10-, and 20-year updates. It certainly didn't take years to read (good heavens, Agenda 21 is only ~300 pages). Neither the organic farming laws or the UN agenda do anything to prove the danger of...

    Why not GM?

k15n1 is correct. Reasoned conclusions can be drawn from replicated, placebo-controlled, double-blind, crossover studies that are published in established peer-reviewed journals. Rants by the "Institute for Responsible Technology" don't count. The writings of Euell Gibbons don't count. Vague...

    Skin Cancer and Black Salve

I suggest going to http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/? and entering the search term "black salve." There are several peer-reviewed publications that specialize in alternative medicine (including the obviously-titled "Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine") and I found 49 hits on...

    Making sugar... is it possible?

That leaves out the important step of carbonation, with lime and CO2 ... the part of the process that makes it impractical to do on a small scale. That is why sugarcane and sorghum are more practical for home or small scale operations.
