    recycling clothes

I do "recycle" clothes a lot, particularly turning jeans into shorts and long-sleeved shirts into t's. Creative patching on my daughter's pants make really neat outfits: patch holes with fabric from my old shirts, or her colorful shirts that are torn or too small; create appliques and lining to...

    Prescription bottles

I know this is an old post, but I'm new and am reading all I can :D. I read somewhere to re-use baby food jars this way, and I'm betting the prescription bottles would work too: if you have a wooden workbench, turn it over, and on the bottom of the work surface near the edges, screw a lid onto...

    ...

I love the idea of stuffing with dryer lint (though I'm trying to get away from using the dryer), and I also saw on another post about cutting the roll about 3/4" into one end, four different slits, then folding them down as you would a cardboard box lid, and use them as starting pots. I use...

So we have this grain bin...

I got an e-mail a few weeks ago that had pictures of one turned into a small house. We're keeping our eyes out for old ones around here that we can move, to make little rental houses out of, to put on our farm. We already have rental houses, but these would be so neat-looking! If I can find the...

    At home births and midwives

Word of mouth. Asked everyone I saw or spoke with. Received lots of "but why would you want to???" comments which I ignored or responded to politely, but I did eventually talk to someone who understood and knew.

    sewing advice

If you have a friend... put the swimsuit bottoms on wrongside out. You or the friend pinch the sagging places and mark with pencil, then sew darts where needed. You can do this alone, but having a friend do it will allow you to stand straight for the measurements. I also was thinking to put...

Is there anything natural I can do ?( Parotitis)

The salt water rinse might also help with the gland itself since the gland does drain into the mouth (if it isn't blocked). Massage directly over the sore & swollen area with a warm moist rag, or place a warm heating pad directly over it, with some pressure - for this, we use a sock filled with...

    At home births and midwives

I have given birth to four babies, all healthy, but I had my own complications. With each birth I hemorrhaged worse, being given blood the 3rd & 4th times ("borderline" 2nd time & they gave me the option, I chose no). 4th time I was 'out of it' enough that I barely knew what was going on at the...

    D.I.Y. Seed mats for germination

Could you place an electric heating pad in the bottom tub in place of the rope lights? I've put egg cartons in a ziploc bag with air vents cut on top, then set the cartons on a heating pad covered with a towel... seems to work well for me, though I'm starting a small number of seeds.

LONG SHOT, looking for property in TN - update, opinion wanted...

I'm not too far from Paris, very near it seems to wannabefree but farther north (since she said she goes to church in Savannah). This is a wonderful place to live... I've never lived anywhere else, hopefully never will. We have land, husband said he would sell off a small part. We...

what jobs work around kids' school hours?

I read a few of the responses but not yet all, but one thing came to mind over and again. When I decided I needed to earn $$ for our family, my mom told me to sit down and make a list of EVERYTHING I enjoy doing. I started the list and took about a week to allow time to think of all I could...

Any one else from the great state of Tennessee?

Hello, everyone! I *just* registered... I too am in TN, in the western part. I saw a couple of posts from '08 by other west-Tennesseans, but none recent. We are about halfway between Nashville and Memphis, a bit off the beaten path but still close to civilization. Wonderful, small town...
