    Herbal Sinus Decongestant??

I love using the Neti pot! Just remember to gently blow all of the water out of your nose. One time I didn't complete the job and when I bent over to pick up something, water came out of my nose. Fortunately, I was at home.

hugelkultur: raised garden beds that don't need irrigation

Since this method is recommended for the desert, I'll think I'll try this in my raised beds. I can't get anything to grow in them due to the drying wind. I have some chunks of firewood which won't fit in my wood stove and I didn't know what to do with them. I might as well toss them into the...

Food Prices, Shortages & Inflation - The Trash Index

What really upsets me about food prices is that the food companies are getting sneaky in regards to the amount we are purchasing. For example, my favorite brand of coffee was available in 3 lb plastic containers. Then the container was "improved" with a nice, convenient handle and the amount...

    Freezer issues, ideas/advice needed

Personally, I wouldn't trust the reliability of a 35 yr old freezer. If I were you, I would purchase a newer one ASAP especially since your other one is also old. :old

    Nevada?

We ran away from Sacramento 6 yrs ago and love it here! So far, our greenhouse appears to mimic Sacramento's growing zone. I was going to attempt hoops but I didn't think they'd withstand our strong winds. In fact, Lattin Farms has had their hoops destroyed from some strong gusts. We decided...

    Nevada?

Oh yes, we have mosquitoes here also. And those little biting gnats cause me severe itching that lasts for days. Are you growing tomatoes and if so, are they producing yet? I have a greenhouse but it's been too hot and most of the blossoms drop off. My bush zucchini are finally beginning to...

Best clothing brands for used clothes

Abi, Sewing your own pants that fit isn't difficult. I highly recommend the book "Pants for Any Body" by Pati Palmer. It's a fantastic little book which simplifies all types of alterations, including the flat derriere! Good luck! ~Margie

    Weird rash/bite/itching

Sounds like he may have been bitten by a buffalo fly. They're common here (northern NV) and I'm extremely allergic to them. The bite starts out like a tiny mosquito bite with intense itching. The redness and swelling spreads and the site of the bite will also form tiny blisters. What I use...

    Receipe for tobasco style sauce

Wonderful timing for this thread! Just this morning my husband told me to stop buying tabasco sauce because it's so watered down and is no longer hot. Thanks for sharing this easy recipe! ~Margie

What did you do to save $ today?

I cut my DH's hair and dried 3 loads of laundry outside. I also baked 2 loaves of bread and dinner in the sun oven. Figure I saved about $40 today! :)

I received my Sun Oven several days ago and I love it! I baked several loaves of bread and also "slow cooked" a stuffed flank steak and a pot roast. Today's menu is meatloaf and potatoes!

Do You Have Livestock on 3A or Less?

The current issue of Mother Earth News has an article regarding homesteading on 1 acre. Since I'm a newbie I'm not allowed to post a link, but if you go to Mother's website, the article is listed under the Current Issue heading. I live on 1 acre in the high desert and, due to the alkaline...
