    Powder Homemade Laundry Soap

Maybe a bit off topic, but how do you determine if you have hard water? We have a drilled well, and have not had any testing done. Is there an easy way to find out?

    Powder Homemade Laundry Soap

    Question about Chicken Feed

I would use that and add black oil sunflower seed for more protein. I'd add some crushed egg shell for layers and feed back some scrambled eggs every so often and that should help with calcium and more protein.

given 200# rice-ok for chickens main staple

I would probably try it if I had more rice than I could eat before it went bad- but I would mix it with some crumble or pellet if you have it, and maybe some black oil sunflower seed, in a large trash can. You could add warm milk to each serving to make a mash.

    New Gadget for my dehydrating!

Congrats on your new gadget! I want a vacuum sealer so bad (it's on the list right behind a KA stand mixer). We borrow my in-laws on occasion. We made a big batch of breakfast burritos to freeze and it worked great for that! I love to make jerky (and really want to make fruit leather), so I...

Watermellon Recipes?? Just brought home 225 overripe mellons- HELP!!!!

That sounds great! We brew our own beer, hard cider and mead. We did soda one year, but that was dangerous :hide! I'd love to do a rose hip wine this fall. You could always cut some up and freeze it for the chickens if you have some freezer space, then dole it out as you want. I would also...

Feedback on this root cellar design?

Do you have any resources or links on this you'd like to share? We have a finished walkout basement, and I'd love to come up with some way to store potatoes and such.

    Discovery of the Habitat ReStore

Our's is not bad, wish I got to go more often. I bought a bunch of used welded wire fencing for $5. The same amount new would have cost $30. They had a lot building material, but not was I was looking for on my project. The prices for good windows ranged from $5 to $300 each depending on the...

Ideas needed for six gallon food grade pails

What about waterers and feeders for chickens? I've seen a lot of posts of BYC to DIY both. The feeders and waterers you buy at the farm store cost $30-40 each. Even if you sold them for $15-20 that's still a lot less.

    Our dump finds

I know it's probably due to legal and liability issues, but it seems so sad for good things to to to waste when someone can see a use for them. :idunno

What do you WANT to learn to do?

Good thread! I want to learn more about foraging for food and preserving it. My brother is a bit of a mountain man and forages for mushrooms and wild leeks on occasion, and we've always harvested black berries. I want to learn to grow more food, for my family and to reduce the amount of...

    Candy recipes?

I think it's certainly worth a try, just modify one of the candy recipes you have. This looked good as well, but I haven't made it. http://www.learningherbs.com/ginger_candy_recipe.html

Rose hips, what can I do with them?

I would love to make wine, we have plenty of rose hips. We brew our own beer and mead, and enjoy it! It would actually make a nice mead, which is also good for anyone who's gluten intolerant and can't tolerate beer.

Rose hips, what can I do with them?

Thanks! Great links and ideas, I'm watching ours everyday, they are getting big and red! We still have another month until a good frost (hopefully), so I'll wait a bit longer before picking any.

YUCK! Slaughter free stem cell meat!

That's very true. I could see the application there when storing large quantities of food are not an option.
