    Cellphones

My dh and I each have a cellphone and use it instead of having a land line, since we get great reception on our ridge and it is cheaper (with free long distance) than having a land line. Mine is pretty plain and simple, over 2 years old. It takes pics, but I don't even use that. I never could...

    Husband Presents?

Hey Gina, they size out like a Carhartt. Which would be running about one size big. I got my hubby the 2X tall, he's 6'1", 295# and the length in the arms and everything fit him great. They aren't too heavy or bulky, but with the insulation they are very warm! We've been running about 18...

    Ways to start a fire

I save all my tree clippings after I prune my apple trees in the spring. I bundle them with twine and toss them in the barn until fall, by which time they are very nice and dry and will help start a fire quicky. They burn very hot compared to most other twigs I could gather around here...

    Husband Presents?

My husband got his presents early. He wanted to buy a used XBox 360 and I said go ahead. And I bought him a really nice work coat from Cabela's and since it's so stinkin' cold, I went ahead and gave it to him. It was a really good deal at $35. Check it out: Cabela's Roughneck Duck Hooded...

Lost all of our hens last evening.............

Oh no, I'd be really devastated. You put so much into them, you don't want the preds to eat them for free and steal your dinner (and breakfast). :(

best place to get your seeds?

I always do really well at Swallowtail Seeds . They have a really nice selection of heirloom tomatoes and I am always surprised how quickly I get my order when they are all the way out in CA, so far from here. I did the 3 sisters last year. Here's some pics of mine and directions how to do...

My bees and my chickens are in the same enclosed pasture. The chickens don't bother the bees and oddly enough, the bees don't bother the chickens when they pass by very close.

brushy mtn bee farm- free shipping in December!!!

Thanks for the heads up. I order from them too, although I haven't gotten a new catalog yet? They had a big sale back in Sept and I just missed it. :P I'm going to do a split on the one hive I have right now (if they come thru winter strong enough). I need to order components for 2 or 3...

government restrictions gone too far. watch this.

What a shame. So I guess he is not going to continue to fight it then? Surely some compromises could have been made, like an outhouse or composting toilet. I don't know why on earth anyone should *have* to live with electricity, solar or otherwise if they didn't want to. It's not been all...

Project ideas needed for 6yo girls

How about polymer clay? It's pretty inexpensive (about a $1.25 a block, "Sculpey, "Fimo" brands). It comes in many colors, glitter versions and glow-in-the-dark. It's been one of the most successful crafts I've done with my kids at church. Anybody can play with clay. You can push it into...

girl to girl: how many of you gals chop your own firewood...by hand?

We don't burn pine in ours because it creates too much creosote, although I've heard people say if it's really aged, like 10 years, that the sap should all be gone from it. They probably set it to the side, not intending it for the house. You can burn pine in those big outdoor wood furnaces...

    Anyone done Love Dare?

The guy in the movie did it by himself to win back his wife. I think it would be more interesting if both people do different dares, then it would be a surprise each day!

    BarredBuff's Homesteading Shenanigans

I've ordered Cornish X twice from Murray McMurray hatchery and they worked out great. They arrived healthy and grew out with no losses or deformities. Now the Black Australorps I got from them I wasn't so happy with. They did fill out great and looked like they should, but they were poor...
