    What's your luxury purchase?

Got home from there about an hour ago. It's about 20 mi away. We stumbled across it a year or so ago when we went to Harbor Freight to look at hand pumps for the well. I think we've only missed our Fri night "date" 2-3 times since then. :love

    Apple Butter

I'm having my first go at making apple butter. The recipe calls for cinnamon, allspice, clove, and nutmeg. Even with this horrible cold I have, the clove is overwhelming. A lot of you folks have waaaaay more experience at this kind of thing than I do. Does anyone know if there is a way to subdue...

    What's your luxury purchase?

WOW! I feel like the high roller here. Every Fri night we go to a little out of the way chinese place where they have a seafood buffet. She has her crab legs, which I find to be WAY too much like work, and I get my baked salmon which she finds WAY to "fishy" smelling. $10 each.

    Straw

We don't use straw but we do pay $4 a bale for hay. We get 40 -45 bales at a time for the horses and I snag 1-2 from them for the coop.

I'll tear a piece off occasionally and eat it just the way it is. I have some drying right now. I processed the last of my "table" ripened tomatoes yesterday.

    Unclejoes Journey

There is a downside to horses. They are big and heavy and while they don't mean to they can inflict some serious pain on the human body. About a month and a half ago one of the goats tried to steal a bit of grain from one of the horses. She lifted up to give him a friendly kick and I was a...

I Soooooo wish they were still here. :( This being my first year of major gardening, Pop-Pops 90 yrs of life experience would have been a real boost and Nana had more mason jars than I could count - always full of course. All that canning equipment was "gotten rid of" when their kids cleaned...

THAT'S A FACT !! Swimming takes over your life. Katelyn and three of her teammates went to jr. nationals in Fl. back in April. The tallest girl in the team photo went to olympic time trials but came up a little short. Katelyn has her sights on London in 2012. We'll do all we can to help her along.

    home made dehydrator?

The first time I tried to make leather with peaches I had the same problem. It stuck to the tray. The next time I sprayed the tray with vegetable oil and PRESTO it peeled right off. It might work with cookie sheets too.

This isn't something I can add to every day, but a rainy Sat. afternoon seems like a good time to tell folks a little more about me. I'm going back a ways to start things off because I feel that the roots of my SS drive started in my grandparents garden and kitchen although I didn't think about...

A title!! I got my very own title!! Woo hoo!! LOL

Beekissed had a great idea. Have a list of titles and rate yourself as to where you think you stand on the SS scale. Start somewhere down around "City Slicker" and work your way up to Daniel Boone or Davey Crockett or something of that nature

Becky's son played donkey BB his senior year of HS. He wanted to take one of ours but they said no, so he had to use one of the ones they brought in. It's rather amusing to watch when a donkey decides he's had enough and won't move.
