Thanks for the welcome. :)
I didn't have much to do with the slaughter truck but I remember when my boss had to equip one to replace the one he had sold (there's a story behind that) how expensive it was.
Obviously, it had a refrigerator system and hooks (hydraulic?) to lift the animals off...
I was a meat wrapper for a farm butcher for five years.
Although my former boss had an on-site kill license, the majority of the actual killing was done at the farms. He has a fully equipped "slaughter truck" for that.
The animals would come in and be hung immediately in the "drip cooler."...
Two hens and a drake would be a good start.
The ones that I mentioned that go in the cage every night were handraised and are very, very friendly. There are four hens and a very large young drake who always greets me with a wagging tail. :)
I'm on the "other side" of the mountains, in Lewis County.
If you're serious about Muscovies and you don't have your heart set on picking out your own (and you would trust me to pick you out however many you wanted), I would be willing to meet you somewhere. I'm about 65 miles from the top of...
I love my Muscovies. They are much more personable and interactive than any other type of duck I've ever had.
I have one particular pet ("Little Ducky") who sleeps on my front porch not far from the door. She eats out my hand, comes when I call her, and will sneak into the house if she thinks...
It's been awhile since I've had any ducks other than Muscovies and I can't really remember what the other eggs were like but.....
Muscovy eggs are larger, kind of an off-white color, with kind of a waxy look to them. Although most of my chickens lay either brown or blue eggs, I do have some...
I have chickens and ducks (also Muscovies) together and they do fine.
I keep a kiddie pool in the pen for the ducks and a regular poultry waterer available as well. Having the pool to splash in and make a mess around in makes them less inclined to mess with the waterer. They can't get in it...
Thanks, I will.
I have to wait a couple of weeks before I know if I can do it financially. But once I know for sure I can swing it, I will call her.
It is nice to know, too, that it is buildable. I really didn't care one way or another because I'm not interested in building on it but knowing...
I touched upon this possibility briefly with the person at the treasurer's office. She said that when you pick something up that way, there are a lot of added fees that have to be paid by the sale - attorney costs and other stuff - which runs the minimum bid up. Also, even though it goes into...
It hasn't been too bad here, either. A couple of light drizzles but nothing like yesterday when it hosed all day long.
I have very little level ground and just going down to feed the goats tends to be pretty treacherous - especially if I step in duck pooh that's on top of the mud. That's...
Hello, fellow Washingtonians!
Rural Lewis County here. I have a volcano (St. Helens) in my front yard (sorta') and another one (sorta') in my back (side?) yard (Rainier).
Sick of rain and mud; I probably shouldn't live here. :/
I gave up trying to figure it out on-line so I went ahead and called the assessor's office. I'm glad I did because I found out lots of valuable information.
For one thing, as of May 1 of this year, it goes into tax foreclosure.
The assessed value is listed as $22,000! And it is buildable...
Ok.
I pulled up the assessor map website but I'm still trying to figure out how to navigate it.
If I can't figure it out pretty soon, I'm going to go ahead and call them.
Thanks for all the replies and the welcomes.
Well, I was in the middle of a long post in response and my power went out. And now I can't find my cell phone - either a dog drug it outside and it's laying in the mud and rain somewhere (I've looked and looked and called it a bunch of times with...
Thanks for the welcome. :)
The reason I thought about going through an attorney is that I thought it might give my interest in the property a little more credibility.
Of course, that might cause the owner to jack up the price.
Anyway, I have no idea what a fair price would be...
Good evening.
First time poster here and I'm going to start with a question.
I bought my hillside homestead four years ago. The guy I purchased it from told me at that time that the acre and a half next door to me might be available. He told me it was part of an estate and that it is not...
