    New kitchen, new cooking style

Often in this kind of lifestyle the expenses are upfront. Like the jars and canning supplies. For example, I pay more a pound for my organic, pasture raised beef than I would for the regular stuff at the store. So, I buy in bulk (I bought 1/4 beeve over year and 1/2 ago and I still have some in...

I would be interested too, ticks. We are considering deer hunting this year as well, for the first time.

Feeding your family without feeding them commercially-raised...

We do not eat any CAFO products. We've been raising chickens and our own organic garden for years, but we had never really thought to go beyond that until a couple of years ago. I started educating myself more, by reading authors like Joel Salatin, Michael Pollan and Joan Dye Gussow and began...

    Your Physical Self

Well, I wouldn't say they don't like ALL candy. We're really careful to make sure it's just a special treat (like at Halloween) and because my children have severe allergies, it makes what they can have a real challenge. They enjoy tootsie rolls, dum dums and sweeties. Because they are so...

    Your Physical Self

Thanks me&thegals! I really enjoy those moments when my little ones reject pop at my parents house or candy at my MIL's. A few weeks ago my MIL gave the kids twizzlers, and after one bite my 4 year old says "Yuck! Mom! What is that? That is NOT food!" LOL! I must be doing something right! :)

NAIS, will you participate if they make it the law? Or will you...

I'm not sure that I believe NAIS is dead in the water. I think the national program may be on hold for awhile while the states pick up their own programs. In my state, tagging cattle is already maditory, and children cannot show their animals at fairs and in 4H w/o being registered.

    Your Physical Self

I grew up in an overweight family. We never ate anything fresh or real. My parents both worked and meals were things like hotdogs and mac and cheese. Snacks were chips and ice cream and pop was a staple. We NEVER drank water. Little wonder I developed hypothyroidism (it also runs heavily in our...

    Who is homeschooling this year?

Thank you for responding! It's like a breath of fresh air to talk to someone who gets it! I find that I struggle with peoples attitudes in our own large family and our circle of friends/acquantances. I cannot even imagine shipping her off to a bunch of indifferent strangers. I often find, like...

    Who is homeschooling this year?

Kindergarten is mandatory, and you're right, there is a huge push for pre-k and preschool. Our pediatrician asked when we were starting my daughter in preschool when she was only 2 1/2!! I was shocked! And yes, many of the schools in our area have started making kindergarten a full day. My...

    Who is homeschooling this year?

My children are 4 and 2, but we plan to homeschool as well. My daughter is severly anaphylactic to peanuts/tree nuts (so much so that she can react to peanut butter on other people's breath) and my son is an active, hands on learner (much like his father) whom I am afraid they will want to drug...
