So I'm tryin to figure out a good simple movable coop thingy for when I get the CX out on the dirt. I really need to get it done ASAP cuz I know they'd benefit from the exposure for sure. And something light enough I can just pull it but something that won't blow away with the nasty spring winds...
OH! I forgot to mention the amounts of clabber and chick started in my previous post.. 1pint clabber and about 1/2C crumble. They didn't finish it all in one sitting.. I'll be interested to see how much they've eaten by the time I get back out there. Also, this is for 10 broilers and 25 Large...
Oh, and I have an interesting tidbit to pass along, while I'm waiting for the pics to send from my phone to my email...
The CX have NORMAL chicken poops! :celebrate Wierd thing to celebrate, but I thought it was rather cool myself
I also did an "experiment" and did the clabber w/crumble...
Ruminating.. watch out for cud breath :gig
I like your idea of the RMH... DH and I have been trying to figure out some way to mimic a broody w./a makeshift ecoglow type brooder heat that doesn't require electricity. I'll hafta muddle that through my brain for a bit and see what I can...
Yeah, I'm thinking switching to the 5gal bell style waterer will help it last longer. Though, I must say, they're all only going through 1gal/day for 35 chicks, which really aint bad. I think the CX are doing better and actually retaining nutrition instead of pooping it all out and having to...
Yup, what Bee said, on all accounts! :D
Nothing new to report here on the meaties! Well, the heat lamp got unplugged the other night (it didn't get below about 60 that night, ugh!) and the chicks all did fine and survived. I need more extension cords  Between the fridge and freezer, the...
Hate to hear of such bad news, BB.
We've dealt with a fair share of strays here. Between chasing cows (instant dirt nap) and several who were drooling over cooped chickens, only a few got away with thier life, as they had collars and never come back after being run off (only a collared dog gets...
Not very scientific w/the ACV.. a glug each time I do the water
You cannot make the really good nutrient rich clabber w/store milk like you can w/raw milk but I've seen folks do it w/buttermilk and store milk mixed together clabbering that way.
I know, they look so tiny compared to the CX
I've actually not seen the usual liquidy explosive poops from the CX the last few days. Im thinking between the ACV and clabber, its really helping thier digestive system. Joints all look good, not the awful balloon looking knobby legs I...
I will get some pics today Bee!! I was hoping to get the CX tractor built but everything is saturated from the frog strangler rain last night.
These poor CX are growing like mad. They're 2 wks 1 day old and massive :ep I'd forgotten how big they get!
They do love some clabber though, WOW...
Get some rest tonight, otherwise you're gonna drag the crud out a few more days!!!
Congrats on the FINISHED green house! :celebrate And you motivated me to get off my hiney and build one.. well, sort of one :lau
Now.. are you gonna post pics? :D
Okie dokie.. I really should read back.. but I wanted to ask this before I went ahead and read from page 1...
Anyone here do water kefir? I'd LOVE to replace our coke intake with something else (plain water :sick ).
It still works without a bagged tea mixture.. I've done it without, which is why I brew it so strong  I can't afford to get sick, I have no calf to be my relief milker
You're welcome! Hope you get feelin better! That tea brew (I brew it strong and its sweet/savory yumminess!) has kept me from having bronchitis the last 3 yrs. I used to get a bad case of it EVERY year due to the up and down weather, but not anymore!!!
:hugs
No pasty butt!!! After a couple days, they all settled and figured out where the right spots for keeping warm are!
Thanks! Actually, its an 8x10 layer coop that my Dad INSISTED he build me when they were out here last fall. Its made of actual plywood with a tin roof and all, whereas stuff DH...
Actually, you could probably take about 1/4C of the buttermilk and mix it in with milk and that should clabber. Just don't forget to save 1/4 of the new stuff for the next batch :)
I think you're right on the explosive poops of the CX
All the meaties are doing really well, growing like...
