Can you tap hickories? We only tap our sugar maples.... the most we have on one tree are two taps.... We have 18 taps right now, and my dad needs to boil it down!!!!

How do you prune back an OLD apple tree (45 plus years old)... There are a few at my grandmas house, and would LOVE to harvest some. They give lots of small apples now, but would like some bigger ones. They also have pear trees, but they're the right size, just hard, only used for baking...

The snow has almost completely melted.... just need to paint the cold frame, BUT I cannot choose a color. Are there any colors that promote growth? We also need to get the seeds... and the gravel as the lining. I actually planted a whole bunch of parsley seeds in the same container as my indoor...

Cool !!!!! I once tried growing brussel sprouts, but it was too hot for them here and , unfortunately, that year both the corn and brussel sprouts rotted because of caterpillars :/

I'm gonna join the contest!!!!! But there's nothing for flowers, so I guess the gourds will have to be my only thing that would count :)

Oh, I forgot to add that I'm going to try to grow a few gourds for birdhouses, but I do't know how they'll do since where I'm planting them gets mixed sun/ shade, however it gets BRIGHT sun in th morning, and then mixed for the rest of the day.

Hello! I actually would join, but my garden is snowed in, and this year I'm focusing on flowers :( I have a dwarf grapefruit tree inside, though, but It won't start to fruit until next year.

I'll join!!!! This year I'm planning on growing a carnation garden and harvesting the seeds, and selling the flowers, and starting more plants from those seeds. Have you guys ever tried sowing seeds in egg shells? I saw it in a Martha Stewart Magazine and though it was a cool idea.

I don't think you need to. I have little bantams and 6 leghorns and some other breeds, and they ar efine without it. We get - degrees her sometimes too.

I've always started my lettuce seeds inside!!! So, I guess it's worth a shot! Right now I'm growing some basil indoors in a little terra cotta pot.
