Scott O'Dell has written many great books. Don't stop at Island of the Blue Dolphin. Many of the women here would appreciate the story of Sarah Bishop, I imagine. I did!
I kefir storebought whole milk. It improves it enough that my lactose intolerant son can enjoy smoothies without any digestive trouble. Raw milk, when I can get it, is too expensive for me to kefir. We drink it straight, and treasure it...
I need a goat.
I only stock up on what we actually eat. I don't use dry milk very often, so I only store a box or two. I don't use store-bought soup, so I don't buy any, even on super-sale. I stock basics that can be made into quite a few simple, tasty meals. I can our own soups, beans, chili, jellies...
I have my Christmas list on my front page of Yahoo, for easy access by my family. ;)

"Solar oven"
"Stainless steel ladle"
"Subscription to Backwoods Home"
"Cast iron tripod"
"Materials to make the back room closet into a full sized pantry"
Oh, sorry! The link worked for me... I'll copy and paste:
I use Ambleside Online with six of my eight children. I have my very nearly 12 yod in Year 4, my 10 yod in Y3, my just turned 9yod and nearly 10yos in Y2, my 6.6 yod in Y1 and just turned 6 twins in Y0, with his twin sister listening...
Here's a list of around-the-house-things to prep that I have saved from somewhere:
Now, back to basics. Here are 30 Things to Prepare That Are Free or Almost Free:
1) Protect your photos, journals and scrapbooks by moving them to a safe place in your home, making them easier to grab in case...
I blogged about our routine here:

It's a year and a half old, but the routine is just about the same.
Can I tempt you to try just one more time? PLEASE? Use this recipe and report back:

I also scored "Starting Over" by Jackie Clay off of PaperBack Swap. I'm giddy over that! Now I'm hoping that the person who has it listed will actually mail it...

My husband and his father's side of the family lived in Hesperia when I met him. We are in the Central Valley south of Fresno now, and they live east of Sacramento. I agree with the 'NOT' living in the desert sentiment. I grew up in rainy, north-coastal Oregon.
Y'day I managed to fit in two yoga sessions, one a half hour and the other a full hour. Today I got in some stretching, but nothing else besides grocery shopping, schooling the Lambies, cooking dinner and getting to church.
GardenWeasel, here is my stand-by recipe for Cream of....
I don't can it (the USDA frowns upon canning dairy, and since it's so easy to whip up, I just make a batch when needed.
Cream of Chicken Soup
This recipe yields about the same as 2 cans cream of chicken soup whisked with one can of...

That's me. I love my breads! I haven't managed a day below 60 carbs (according to FitDays numbers) but I am getting closer and closer to it. I still haven't found where to add ingredients for a recipe and get a nutritional estimate. I joined SparkPeople, but couldn't find it. I have...
I am making Caramel Apple Jam today:
Caramel Apple Jam
6 cups cooked apple pulp (I assume that means applesauce...that's what I use, anyway)
1 package fruit pectin
2 cups sugar
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Get your water boiling in your canning pot, rack tucked inside. Boil lids...
You don't need eggs to bake! You can grind flax seed in your blender and add water and it acts the same.
1 Tbsp flaxmeal + 3 Tbsp water=1 egg
Also helpful to know....3 Tbsp flax meal=1 Tbsp fat or oil (of course applesauce subs 1:1)
Wish I read this yesterday. I threw out a bunch of potatoes we weren't going to be able to eat before they went bad. No time to can them, but I could have done that!

I LOVE GreenSmoothieGirl.com. I have her recipe collection for smoothies. I do not agree with her vegetarian beliefs, but for smoothie recipes and hints on how to add more veggies to your healthy meat meals, she's the best!
