    What's for dinner?

Last night was four jars of 2021 home canned food. 1. quart of ham and veggie soup 2. pint of lentil soup 3. pint of diced tomatoes 4. pint of cooked pork. Mixed all together, simmered for a while, adjusted spices, and served with plain bagels with cheese on top. YUMMY!!!

What did you do in your garden today?

I could not afford the water for that much. It doesn't rain here in the summer/fall anymore.

What did you do in your orchard today?

I have two plum trees and a nectarine. They were from Stark's and are only four years old. I'm to hold off on trimming them until just before spring. We might get a sprinkling of our first snow this coming week, and spring is quite a ways off. The two figs won't be trimmed as they are tiny...

What did you do in your orchard today?

I watched three vids of how to prune apple trees. The best one was from UC Santa Cruz. So I went at it. Got five of them done, and then hubs got the very tall water sprouts cut more than half way down. The UC Santa Cruz teacher said that if you trim those leaf bud branches (diff from fruit...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

I volunteered yesterday at an annual seed swap. I actually sat at the Food Bank table, but was able to browse the tables and tables of seeds. Two companies mail their out of date seeds (packed for '24) to the group that organizes this. A larger company declined this year, for the first time in...

The above lady posted yesterday in our local give and receive. She was really pissed off that we gave her pork. She did offer it to others, but alot of the comments said for her to throw away the pork. "it looks freezer burned" "I wouldn't eat that junk" "if you have dogs, feed it to them" I...

Our Food Bank throws away sooooo much food. They spend $2000 a week for a produce company to deliver what they ordered. If something looks even overripe, marred, nicked, etc, into the trash it goes. Tuesday I brought home a 1/4 filled huge banana box filled with produce discards. We are eating...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

I just read a Reuters report that Procter & Gamble, after a year of flat prices, will most likely raise their household goods prices due to the new tariffs. Time to stock up on dish soap, dishwasher stuff, and laundry detergent.
