Our Sushi friend says that sometimes wasabi is not really wasabi. There is "Japanese Horseradish", which is much cheaper, and real Wasabi root, which is really expensive.
I'll bet you're right, Katharina; but it was a big shocker when she told me the price of shipping.
Her tone of voice told me that often, when she tells people on the phone the shipping price, they must give her a really hard time. So, I tried to be as polite as possible when I told her "no...
Last time I was out to see my daughter she pointed a car out to me that had been outside during a "golf ball size" hailstorm; and that is exactly what it looked like. All over the car, it looked like folk had been driving golf balls into the car from every direction. Yow!
That must have been...
It's a really good education into the time you're interested in to be able to read a newspaper or a popular magazine that was current.
Just a little off topic, perhaps, but a few years ago a friend found an old copy of what I guess you could call the People Magazine of it's time, at her...
Absolutely right, Twiceshy. Seeing the world in black and white, in absolutes, doesn't make for much understanding between peoples. I've noticed when I hear "Well, I just believe..." the word just is the dangerous word. We'll be hearing about passion and not reason.
There is a series of books about True Blood's main character, Sukie. There are quite a lot of these books, but I don't know how closely the TV version follows them.
I'm reading the Twilight series as the girls in my group are just mad about them. I've read the first two, and really enjoyed them...
HMOs are fine with me; "pecking away at our pleasure":D (good phraseology!) isn't fine at all.
Prevention is the way to ultimately bring down the proverbial medical bill, but I think other factors need to come into play.
BUT insuring everybody is the goal we all have to look to; that is the...
Just as Abraham Lincoln in his time, can be thought to be a racist by today's folk who only judge his words and not factoring in the context of his time. In a time when the general public either were unsure that black people were even human beings, or that God's punishment made slavery his...
That's really the crux of the question, katharina. The urge to violence in mankind is so close to the surface. The peacemakers are usually dispatched in a very violent way. Ironic, and heartbreaking.
Well, I'm slightly bummed. They want nearly as much in shipping as they do for the whole box of chocolates! I know that they probably need to use a more priority shipping so the candy arrives in good order; but please!
I would stop reliance on buying food that I could make so much more cheaply if I do it from scratch. It's amazing how cheaply you can make something if you but find a recipe and refer to it. I love to cook, but I have gotten bad habits lately.
Our connection must not be so good, either. The film will stream just fine, and then it will get all fuzzy and stop, for 30 seconds or so, and then start to stream again. It's really annoying.
This year, Father's Day lands on another family birthday, so we will be doubling the celebration. I won't tell what FD gift I got my Hubbins, because he's psychic like that and will know in a minute! HFD to all the good dads out there!
Katharina, please share the stroganoff recipe! I would love to cook Hubbins' stroganoff from scratch! :)
Noodles are a great accompaniment for stroganoff; he just likes rice better.
Oooops, totally forgot what else I was going to say, "on a lighter note", was that the Flintstones was first sponsored by Winston Cigarettes. There was the sponsor's cartoon sequence where Fred was watching TV, and lit up, smoked, and smiled. That's what you call different from today!!!
You're right. One thing that changed, due to the assassination of JFK, was that sportscasters toned down their verbs and adverbs when announcing winning scores. The sportscasters used to say things like "The Dodgers slaughtered the Yankees", words of that nature. It sounds a little silly now...
A good friend spent some years selling wasabi. Chefs are beginning to use sushi on lots of different foods now, even on steaks!
Katharina, have you tried wasabi in sour cream? That really adds some zing to your everyday food.
