We have lots of nettles in our barnyard. When my two oldest boys were younger, they used to take off their shirts and have nettles fights :ep
That's entertainment when you live in the country
You can re-use the rubber rings. They get a little indentation from being held tight to the edge of the jar, and the directions say to flip them the next time you use them, so the indent is away from the jar. They are good for several uses.
I like them. I have re-used some 3 and 4 times with no problems so far. A few got a pinkish stain from tomato sauce that didn't wash off, but no biggee for me.
Are they the same type of material as mylar emergency blankets? I've used the blankets to line curtains (reflects the sun away on hot days, and keeps the heat in on cold days). They are good for covering outside plants, too, when there is danger of frost. They also make cool gift wrap, and...
For the "Dirty Dozen", I always buy organic. These carry the highest pesticide load. Fortunately, I have over half of the list growing in my garden.
DIRTY DOZEN:
1. Celery
2. Peaches
3. Strawberries
4. Apples
5. Domestic blueberries
6. Nectarines
7. Sweet bell peppers
8. Spinach, kale...
What attachments did you get? If you happen to have the food grinder with the fruit/veg strainer, you can make applesauce or tomato sauce fast & easy! It always amazes me when I watch that thing work!
I have a Bosch Universal, too. I got it because my KA overheated a couple of times kneading bread dough, and I could only make 2 loaves at a time with the KA. Now I use the Bosch for bread and the KA for everything else.
Youre going to want a pressure canner (not cooker). I use my pressure canner for water bath canning, too (just put the cover on without clamping it tight and leave the pressure gizmo off). Youll need jars, rings, lids, a funnel, a jar-lifter. I use mine on a glass-top stove, and I think Presto...
We went strawberry picking last weekend. I called the U-Pick patch we usually go to and asked what chemicals they use on their berries. The don't use methyl iodide, but do use two other chemicals. In the end we decided to drive 50 miles to an organic farm to pick.
Methyl iodide is actually used by scientists to produce cancer cells in labs. What are they thinking??!!?? Customers have no idea what they are buying with their strawberries, and so sad for the farm workers who would be exposed to it constantly.
So that's how normal people do it?? Trying to do what normal people do is way too stressful for me.
I really don't own a toaster. I got tired of trying to slice my homemade bread thin enough to fit into the slots, so it went away at the last garage sale.
Wow, I had to dig pretty deep to revive this old journal! I just needed a place to put my exciting news. My cast iron frying pan is finally seasoned well enough that I can make pancakes without having to chisel them out later! The pancakes flipped right out! Now I can toss my last non-stick...
