    What is a Zombie?

Zombies, Sheeple, Golden Hoard, whatever you want to call it. I try not to focus on it to much, as it can make you paranoid. That being said if you do have a stash of supplies, don't say anything to anyone. They don't need to know. If you want to help others plan for it in your preps.

    S. 510:FDA Food Safety Modernization Act

Buster- If those amendments are added it would help calm some of the fears I have about what kind of effects this bill will have on small farms.

    S. 510:FDA Food Safety Modernization Act

*WARNING- stay on issue* OK ,so this bill has come to my attention lately ,and I didn't see a lot of coverage on it. So I asked permission to bring it up here because I think many of you would also be interested. Food safety has become a major issue lately with the E.Coil and Salmonella in the...

Food Storage on $5 a week

Actually I would be. Even though I don't usually like the way some can look down their nose and stereotype the 'zombies' and the 'sheeple' , I am not so naive to dismiss sound preparedness advice. Could you send me a PM with some links?

How to start a sour dough starter

I'm wondering if I have the right thing growing in my starter. I use just the store brand bleached white flour, but I didn't have any problem getting it to double, bubble, toil, and......sorry got carried way :P . I leave mine out on the counter (it's about 85` in my kitchen) , cut in half , and...

For all you chocolate lovers out there

LOL Crazy! Well I am a chocoholic but here lately I've really been striving to get non local things out of my diet. In other words if it can't be grown in my state or at least in a very small non-heated greenhouse I shouldn't be eating it. I love chocolate but really the hardest thing to give...

Pros/Cons of a rock house? Pics pg 3 dial up friendly

Looks promising! I wish I could find something like that in OH.(Or convince my hubby to do it. He's still really attached to his t.v. and cable, and micowave. Training still in process ;) ) Looks like quite a bit of work but I'd say as long as the foundation is good then go for it!! Good Luck!

How to start a sour dough starter

OK I officaly started my first starter last night!!! I'm more of a visual person so I watched some vids , found the simplest things to do and my daughter and I did it together. We came down to feed it first thing this morning and she said "did we catch anything mom?" I'm not sure. Should it be...

    Storing Onions and Potatoes

My BIL stored about 50# in big rubbermaid totes with moisture absorbers in the bottom of the pantry in his apartment. They lasted all winter , spring and the begining of summer.

How to start a sour dough starter

Great info all! I have been looking into learning bread making and this seems like the route I want to go. My MIL offered me her bread maker and while it was a nice offer I really don't want to rely on anything electric to make the bread for me. I want to know how to make it the "old fashion way".

What did you cook from scratch today?

Potato cheese soup, with onions, carrots and celery. Good but not one of my faves. I made it cause the kids and hubby LOVE it.

New Moratorium On Political Threads & Posts

I will also agree to no politics if the religious 'stuff' goes with it. I think neither are appropriate and both are completely without merit in the SS forum. I, myself have made political comments so I am guilty. But I was never offended by any aimed in my direction.( I can't say the same of...

Banned - If That Doesn't Beet All (pun intended)

Yeah , I hope that we come to our senses about "frankenfood" but some how I have the sneaking suspicion that the proverbial genie has been let out of the bottle. It's doubtful that we'll ever get him back in.
