If you pile it up, do the gnats and flies get really bad? Because I figured if the bugs breed in the small piles in the field they would have died and gone to heaven if I pile it all into one huge pile.
Were they earth worms in the manure? I thought that it would be wonderful for worm bins...
Among my many projects in the making, I have worm bins. Those are ready to go, as it warms up a little bit, I'll be getting the worms.
From what I have read, horse manure is hot. So that's a no-no for the worm bins and a no-no for the garden. So then that leaves the question what to do with...
Another helpful thing about storing hay/bedding in the loft of the barn is added insulation. Heat rises, and pile a bunch of hay in the top of the barn, those animals will be nice and toasty through winter!
I've already told Adam that I want a loft on my future barn.
We only have one large peach tree. We did plant a couple of pear trees, two other type of fruits(can't remember FIL planted them) and a couple of small bushes that FIL says are fruit something or other. So, we prune by hand, standing on the ladder for the peach tree. LOL
I'm sure you get into...
Vets have to give it here as well.
Although, I don't know many people here who vaccinate their horses against rabies. The main vaccines here are the tetanus, encephalitis, and the west nile. We do have to have coggins tests.
That's what I figured, that since it was a fairly aquatic creature it would make some sense it would still be in water.
Then again, individual animals respond differently to rabies, there are several different reactions from depression to aggression and everything in between.
Oh the stories about rabid animals are just aweful. I remember hearing about one where there was a rabid fox that was running around the neighborhood trying to get into houses. Repeatedly running into doors and windows. Unfortunately, it found a house with a doggy door and the family came out of...
I simply googled pruning and read a bunch before we did our peach tree. It had gotten so big that 25% of the limbs were dead. Looks like a completely different tree now, and so far so good it hasn't up and croaked on us. LOL
Basically what I got from the reading was wait until late winter...
They look like trouble to me!! That's why they are in maximum security prison! Just look at those cute and innocent faces! They say to me "open the gate, I dare you" :lau :gig :lau
They are terribly cute trouble makers. :)
I was curious, because I'm dying for a dairy animal and a cow is a bit much to swing lately, especially since my pasture needs some recooping...
I would prefer to get one goat and pasture it with my horses for companionship. Maybe if it bonded to the horses, it would be less likely to wander...
Never really thought how rabies would factor into SS. I guess we would treat it how we would treat it SS or without.
If it acts weird shoot it.
If it acts normal, cook it thoroughly and no worries.
The only real difference in an end of the world scenario, would be how to deal with people...
I notice that this is mostly a northern thing and I read a little bit about it and found that sap collection is highly dependant on the temperatures. So what is the southern most state that is able to do sap collection.
We hope to purchase a farm along the NC/VA boarder near the blue ridge...
Let's see, how many apply to me....
worming your hogs, is a stock tip..
possum IS the other white meat..
I wouldn't put the pull-my-finger trick past my family at Christmas...
my neighbors ARE the people on Jerry Springer.. they're are crazy, and that's wording it nice..
fast food is...
Well, usually we don't gather trees, but we do have our own every year.
Most of the time, the whole tree is thrown to the chickens, then when it's all dried up and they're done with it, we take it to our pond and chuck the whole thing in for the fishes.
Never thought of letting the horses...
The mods wouldn't(or shouldn't) have an issue with castration, it is a common practice on any farm, pet household, or homestead. It would be like someone having moderation issues with saying I was getting my dog neutered! Of course, when you're from a household where the men outnumber the...
This dicussion reminds me of the time one of the houses along the way of my old commute a few years ago put one of these things in their front yard.. Yes, it was that big and actually more brightly colored than the one pictured. Pretty cool, except they were living 'uptown' in a fairly high end...
