    Allergic reaction to beer

I think sometimes you just have to say "okay, no more of that brand". Hubby can't drink Red Stripe. He had a bottle and was fine, but the next day when he had a bottle he woke up and started having blind spots, which is the prelude to a migraine. And boy was it a migraine, meds all day, called...

    Just want to say

LOL Yeah. Apparently after talking to the lady and her teenagers, there were two sightings earlier that day and the life guard called every one out of the water. Either he didn't see this one or is just didn't make the size limit to call the people out of the water. The life guard said the...

    Just want to say

All this talk of beaches and ocean, I just had to tell this story we heard on Sunday from a friend of ours. He has a beach house and his family was vacationing at it. He and his young daughter were wading in the water, it was probably only waist deep on him. They were laughing and having a good...

    Breeding pigs?

Did some research. Some people do raise potbellies for meat, but I found out that there are also several other types of miniature pigs. My goal is to find a site that compares the qualities of each as homestead meat animals. Potbelly pigs would be the easiest to find, since they are the more...

    Breeding pigs?

I was reading some homesteading book and they spoke of a miniature meat hog that was being raised in Italy on people's balconies! I didn't think about it until you mentioned pot bellies. When you want to raise animals for meat, you have to take into consideration their feed to meat ratio...

    Mini Farming

I'll have to ask if our library carries it, if not, I'll request that they do. While I love homesteading and self sufficient books, after you've read 4-5 they start repeating themselves. While I'm there I'll have to request that they order some of the Joel Stalatin books.

    Breeding pigs?

While I have also contemplated this, every thing I've read and research had led me to firmly nix this unless I am full ready to jump in. Pigs can be aggressive. Mom remembered as a child someone picking up a piglet to fawn over it and the mother sow jump OVER a gate and came charging. Since...

    Making a little extra cash

Well, I doubt anything that I make from my farm currently could be considered "extra" cash, more like "cash I wouldn't have" cash or "not quite as deep in the hole" cash. LOL Right now, we just sell extras. Extra rabbits, extra chickens, extra geese, extra eggs. So far, the only things that...

    Dacjohns--Changes

:P You know I only play. Adam is out in my mom's back lot hoping to snag a deer. Send successful hunting vibes! We don't have many places to hunt here, mom's back lot is only the back 3 acres of her 10. We have public lands, but you need to be 10 feet off the ground and thanks to Dick's we...

Vegetarian recipes for christmas dinner needed

Didn't think of that one. I just figured that if they would eat dairy, they would eat unfertilized eggs. If this is clogging the thread just let me know and I'll stop, it's not that important, just a stray casual comment. :)

Vegetarian recipes for christmas dinner needed

I have no suggestions in regards to food. I am curious why they wouldn't eat eggs. I wonder if you had a flock of hens and no rooster to fertilize the eggs, if it would still be off limits. I can see why they wouldn't eat a fertilized egg because of their beliefs, but I wonder how they view...

What to do if your duck is sportin' the "wet look"...Thanks y'all!!!

Any changes in diet? What are you feeding him? I know with other animals, suppementing with black sunflower seeds helps their coat, maybe it would help your drake. Please research ducks and sunflower seeds directly before doing this, I know chickens can have them, not sure about ducks.

    Dress weights on different livestock?

I'll measure the rabbits next time we do a butchering(Monday/Tuesday). I'll do a before and after measurement. These are NZ/ California mutts at 7 weeks. I'm interested to see myself. With the new rabbits I've gotten, I plan to play around a little bit. I plan on taking a litter of rabbits...

How to meet single like-minded individuals?

Thanks guys, I definately won't "push" anything, because of course it would come back to bite me in the behind. :P There were a couple of gentlemen at work that mom liked, but they were already called for either by a girlfriend or a wife. Not that the one with a girlfriend is completely...

    Am I the only one..

I think a lot of it has to do with the weather. While I prefer colder weather, I don't prefer overcast and days on end of rain and fog. If the weather is nasty, many people stay cooped up in the house. People don't get sick from going out in the cold, they get sick from staying cooped up...

    Minimalist Poultry Processing Equipment

I think they say 'nobody eats rooster' because some people have the misconception that a 'rooster' is not a 'chicken'. Many people think a 'chicken' is a 'hen'. Like a 'cow' is a 'cow', but a 'bull' is not a cow? My father actually argued with me when I cooked a rooster that most people just...
