    Cornish Cross 2025

I have a. Barometer hanging in the middle of the heat lamps. This morning temperature was right above 70. I woke up to a pile of dead chicks yesterday morning. They were in the middle of the tub I had them in. Not crowded under the heat lamp, not crowded at the other end away from the heat...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Coffee is ready! It’s Friday, had to look because most of the time I don’t know what day it is anymore. I missed church Wednesday night cause I thought it was Tuesday. I’m really careful to know it’s Sunday because I teach the kids class. When I worked I sure knew what day it was, especially Friday!

All that work and where are the chicks????? In the house. A little crowded, but they have feed, water, are warm and alive. Freeze is gone. Hopefully I can maintain temperature in the still empty coop and they can go outside. I am an idiot.

    Cornish Cross 2025

Wow, last time I kept a CCX journal was 2020. A lot of changes since then. I have orders for 50 chickens, dressed out of course. So I ordered 75 chicks, went and picked them up Wednesday, February 19. I built a new coop, bigger, for that many. They gave me 5 extra, total 80 chicks. I will...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Just finished my coffee. It’s a fog white out. Got 1 1/2” of rain, sheep lots are poop soup. At least this winter, due to the loads of dirt I shoveled into their shelters, no poop soup inside the shelters. Still waiting on 2 ewes to lamb, then will be done. Need to sort out Ewenique and her 2...

    Food prices June 2021

Maybe not the end of the world, but higher prices sure hurt. Especially for other people who don’t have the resources that we do.

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

I raised quail a long time ago. There weren’t all the colors then, male/female were easy to tell apart. Lots of eggs! I broke them into a measuring cup. I think it was 1/4 cup quail eggs to 1 chicken egg. They were great fried, a yolk in every bite. Plus pickled quail eggs, so yummy. I haven’t...
