I like fried chicken livers and gizzards. Don’t like any other kind of liver.
Once I bought nearly 70 pounds of beef liver for the dogs. 17 cents a pound, was so excited! I found a readily available source of meat for the dogs. Only one problem, they didn’t like it any better than I did...
I woke up at 2:40 AM thinking about that meat to ground up. Sigh…. I got up at 3, had my 2 cups of coffee and went to work. 30 pounds of meat, some made into pan sausage. Vacuum sealed in 1 pound packages.
If I go to the town 9 miles from me that has 2 blinking lights, a dollar store, convenience store and a post office, I don’t change clothes. I’ve gone to that town for ice after butchering chickens, splattered with blood and guts, nobody bats an eye. BUT if I go to Lufkin or Crockett, I put on...
I have a small Food Saver, for 20 some odd years. It does get too hot sometimes and I have to let it cool down. But overall, it’s done a good job for me. I’ve butchered hogs, deer, chickens, LOTS of chickens, and I’ve been happy with it. I’ve been tempted to upgrade to a bigger, better one, the...
92 pounds, 12 ounces of chickens today. One was 8 pounds! I parted them out, skinless boneless breast, 1/2 to a package, leg quarters, wings cut for buffalo wings, and backs packaged to be canned for the dogs. Scraps to be canned for dogs. Big bag of gizzards, hearts, and livers, I’ll package...
I slaughtered 14 today, process tomorrow. 4 more big chickens. A neighbor wants to come over Saturday and learn how to slaughter chickens. So I saved the last few. Then I take a 2 week break before I start on the next batch.
@CrealCritter being prepared is important for whatever weather throws at you. Here it’s hurricanes and just bad storms. I’m glad you came through the storm ok and learned what you need to fine tune for next time.
Coffee is ready. Ridgetop from BYH and her husband came by yesterday afternoon. They stayed the night, we had a good visit. They are picking up their tractor this morning in a town south of here. It’s been in for repair.
I love my granddaughters visits. It’s so much fun. I’m glad you enjoyed her visit so much. It’s so worth it to take a few days “off” and center your attention on your precious granddaughter!
When I had knee replacement surgery I hired a friend to come take care of my animals for a month, just so I wouldn’t do something stupid. By the third week I was able to do some of the feeding, by fourth week I could take care of them in the mornings and feed dogs in the evenings. At end of the...
I’ve completed one order for 10 chickens, plus 10 pounds ground chicken, total 66 pounds, at $8 per pound. That comes to $528. Her schedule is crazy, we’ll meet up probably on April 6.
Total pounds processed so far is 152 pounds, 10 ounces, 26 chickens.
I gave one chicken to a neighbor who...
@CrealCritter just what was in that “health” drink that made you so grumpy? At least you know it was the drink that made you so grumpy. Think about all the people who may have the same problem but don’t know why. Our foods have degenerated into a chemical mis-mash of sickness.
On second cup of...
