Here abouts, IKEA is sold in the U.S., made in Scandinavia, and comes with instructions written in Asia. That makes putting things together a world of fun.
Right, @Myhouseisazoo2, there is a pretty short 'hunting season' on morels. The right temps, the right rainfall, and they pop up almost overnight. They are gone within a few days. Where are you (general area only) that you hunted morels as a child?
NOT a dumb question.
@Myhouseisazoo2, store milk has been homogenized. This means the fat (cream) droplets are broken down into pieces that will no longer separate out from the milk as fresh (raw) milk will do. Also, what is called "whole" milk at the grocery store is only 4% milk fats. Much...
Here I am picturing a story about pigs playing musical instruments or chubby bikers getting down and mellow when you come up with a recipe.
Hum. THEY say bacon goes with everything. I guess this would take the cake (or top the cake as it were). I agree with @baymule. Try it and let us know how...
My spouse has always asserted that the worst thing Man did to created a multitude of problems was to put water inside the house. I suppose that would apply to water piped through a plumbing irrigation system underground as well.
Water in the house ALWAYS seems to remind me of Murphy's Law. If...
I need to add some ventilation to my chicken coop before the cold settles in. I had hoped Son and/or Spouse would finally hear what I've been saying and get it done for me. Nope! I don't think it's going to happen -- unless someone takes pity on me after I start.
I currently have insulation in...
@sumi, I have seen Patty Pan squash in yellow, orange, lt. green, dk. green and white. All different color variations of the squash. All of them WERE flat-ish in shape, though.
@Flying J, I love the. . . um, er, scenery on your homestead lands. Blue has always been my favorite color.
I am so glad we can chat in private, for I fear the drool and the green demon (jealousy) in my eyes would be rather off-putting in person. I do so LOVE that machine of yours.
Sorry I can't be of help, but I wanted you to know I would have tried helping if I had any idea about your Universal 2 grinder. I figure you did a search for instructions, but have you looked for a "Grinder Group" on line somewhere? There may be folks who discuss their food grinding adventures...
The first picture in this thread shows the porch in progress, but the front windows are also shown. Here, the windows are finished with the painting and (hopefully) soon will have siding around them.
We have two newer members with a birthday today. Wishing them all the best today and for many more birthdays to come.
@cindyflory, I'm so glad you joined. Stop by for a chat now and then.
@mother, have a great day -- from a grandmother who loves meeting new cyber-friends -- and don't be a...
It's that time of year again! The garden is being put to bed, the colorful leaves are carpeting the woodland floor and @Norman is having a birthday. Nope, Canada is not far enough away to hide from your friends here on SS on this day.
I hope your birthday day is a great one filled with family...
:frow How-dee, @creativetwinszoo! :frow Happy to make your acquaintance here on SS. Recycling is a good way to reduce our footprint on Mother Earth and every step toward self-sufficiency brings up closer to the way Nature intended us to live well.
:yaWelcome home. Stop by often and make...
Probably butternuts as well. The only way I can tell walnut from butternut trees -- before they set fruit -- is by crushing the leaves and smelling them. Butternuts have a buttery smell.
Our furnace of 40 years bit the dust last spring although the repair man didn't make it out to check until mid September (despite several calls between May and September). We decided to have a geothermal system put in rather than another furnace.
It's a big hunk of change(?) to start out, but...
Welcome, @Tuco! You can go a long way toward self-sufficiency with a vacant lot or large yard in the city. You don't need a lot of acreage to reap the rewards of gardening, canning, enriching your spot on the Earth. Stop by often and we'll chat about doing big things in small spaces.
