Hickory nuts are a pain to crack and remove, but delicious when used in any recipe just like walnuts. I think the hickory nuts taste a bit more buttery.

I am living proof that it never hurts to try. We put a bid on a property that the real estate agent said was lower than bids the owner had turned down. Our luck, the man's uncle had just passed and left him what wealth he'd had. The man took our offer, just happy to have the house sold.
Given the flexibility, I would have different answers to many of the questions. For someone already living in a rural area with smaller towns around rather than big urban spaces, the problems may not be the same. For someone with space for foraging and hunting as well as a spring fed water...
