Welcome, Lyssa!
Wow, from central Texas to Alaska! That's quite a gardening jump. Ya'll must love challenges to take that leap. Best of luck to you and glad to meet you here on SS.
...but it was built for a space in a local bar.
Here's a photo of my son's newest project. It was supposed to fit at the end of a bar and meant to keep patrons from finagling their way behind the bar. It does have wheels, but she intended to keep them locked.
The owner's boyfriend didn't like...
DH and DS spent the greater part of today doing plumbing. It is time. We did all the plumbing ourselves when we built this house (starting) in 1977 and this is the first time we've had to replace any of the fixtures. A pretty good run of luck -- or quality products -- that couldn't last forever...
Ditto with the lime. Garden lime or lawn lime is great for sweetening areas that grow more moss than grass. I have one area that needs an application of lime at least every other year for grass to grow.
I apply with a seeder or fertilizer spreader, usually first thing in the spring to get the...
Sorry, I just stopped here to see what the smart people had to say. Nothing I can do to help.
Anyway, have you considered colorful bottles. I am picturing a blue, red, etc. big wine bottle with the smaller end cut enough to fit over the socket and the larger end cut at an attractive angle for...
Well, they moved the pool table to the finished part of the basement, cleaned and mounted lights, and just finished re-felting. It was green and looked pretty moth-eaten. Son wanted red felt. I am still unsure if I like that color, but since I don't play pool I figured it doesn't matter whether...
With half an acre it really doesn't matter what you grow, you will have to supplement feed for most farm animals over the winter. Your post doesn't say where you are located. Here in south-est, central-est Wisconsin we can get three cuttings and in a good year four cuttings of alfalfa.
This...
It is that time of year here in south-est, central-est Wisconsin. Morel time. Much of this afternoon was spend hunting the elusive mushroom.
Close to 300 were found, divided between families, and prepared for supper. I kept the smaller ones to dehydrate for winter mushroom soup.
Welcome, Jennylea, from a fellow mother, grandmother and gardener who is endeavoring to become self-sufficient. Working as a family can be a good way to garden. I hope you find it as addictive as most of us do. Glad to have you with us.
Chelsea, thank you and thank your husband for your service to our Country. It is true that the whole family serves when a family member is in the military.
It is good that you start learning and thinking about what you want before you find your land. It can be an exciting adventure, but take it...
Welcome to Sufficient Self.
I haven't taken the plunge and started raising cattle although I've been considering getting some Belted Galloway. Dexters would certainly be a good choice as well.
Still awaiting the panel doors and the revised drawer front, but here's the rough photos of incomplete cabinet. Here is the top drawer with out its facing, and the removable butcher block top.
You can see the wine rack box inside with a heavy duty drawer below.
And from the wine rack side.
Son...
I am so excited as the new cupboard son is making for me nears completion. It has a small wine rack, one small drawer and one large one. The top is a cutting board. The whole cabinet is on wheels, but sized to fit a small empty wall in the kitchen.
I offered to do the staining and varnishing...
