    plowing

Many people don't believe in plowing and insist that lasagna gardening is the only way to go -- that is preparing the garden space in the fall or early spring with layers of mulch that you plant through. That keeps the weeds down since you don't disturb the soil I prefer not to plow or till...

I have no clue how or why to use this feature. I'll be watching for other posters -- I'm always eager to learn new things.

    Billiard rack

Here are the three cabinets that he has started so far. He still needs to make the drawers, doors, feet, and decide upon a finish. Also shown is one of the wood shop cats, Sunset or Thumbs. Since we heat the shop with a corn burner, the cats have their fill of rodent pests.

    New member, hello

Only year seven? I compare the construction of my house to Johnny Cash's car. We started in the late 1970's. We are still working on the basement, and I can show you where things in the living areas are still not finished (and probably won't be since they don't seem important to spouse anymore)...

What are you trying that is new to you this year in the garden?

I am sure there will be a few new veggies once I am done drooling over garden catalogs and place my orders, but I have a lot of seed from last year and from saving this 2013's seed. The 'new to me' variety that I am excited about is CLOUDBERRIES. After seeking seed or plants for over eight...

    compost bin location

Ditto! Just what I would suggest. Break the composter open if you can, add the manures as you replace the compost material. If it is wet, it is probably frozen. In that case you will have to wait a bit before you can disrupt the compost.

    Good Morning From Northern Ontario!

Sub-zero temperatures here as well. The sun is out and bright. From inside it almost looks warm. . . almost. The drifts of snow on the ground keep me from running outside without my coat and boots and scarf and hat and mittens and cuddly duds under everything else.

How to open a bottle of wine

Been there without a corkscrew. Wish I had known this trick. Drats, and I just bought a new one. Of course, the stuff I drink doesn't come with a cork. . . .

    How much do you store

I know that was discussed on another site. I will see if I can find that post to share. I can't access that site right now.

Picture Of The Week (POW) Information & Submissions

We keep hearing reports of black bears moving down from Northern Wisconsin and two years ago one to the south and a bit west in Illinois. DH insists they are honing in on my blueberry planting. I don't think I could live in harmony with such large visitors. Of course when I was younger, we...

Which BIG potato variety do you like to grow?

Kennebecs run about the same as your Russets. Pontiacs are a large-ish potato of the same size, but round shape rather than Kennebec's oval.
